Maybe, but it still doesn\'t hurt to have them log it in the system just in caseOriginally posted by SABIO

Yeah bring it by your local dealer and ask them to check it out. I get more than 350 to a full tank and I have a habit of driving over the speed limit.
yeah i drive hard sometimes
but, not always,
i will try speedlimit for a week and see what happens but i will call my local dealer anwyays!
thanks!!

Broli, try turning your car off from time to time. I know you have to keep it running to make quick get aways from all the ladies you be peepin\' in on ... oops, I mean hookin\' up with.![]()

This is sure to give some folks a stir. Here is my most recent fuel economy log entries:

39.1 mpg... and believe me it is accurate (175km / 10.53L = 6.01 L/100km)
Now tonight I have to fly down to Woodstock from work. I\'m sure I won\'t be driving conservatively like I usually do and I will be interested to see what fuel economy that nets me.

Hi,
Before I stored my vehicle in early December at approx 10k on the odometer, I was getting between 350 to 450 kilometers per tank progressively...three weeks now back on the road and now I\'m getting around 500km per tank and I\'ve just turned 12k on the odo.
My latest fill-up I used 44.75L for 541km\'s driven, thats 8.27I/100km or 33.6 mpg, regular driving 70/30 split city/hwy.
What gets me is I haven\'t changed anything including my driving habits ie; hwy cruise at 140kph and slightly aggressive driving with a couple of red-line runs to keep her loose.
Maybe she\'s finally broken in!? Who knows? But considering the weight of the vehicle and the size of the engine 2.3 GT I\'m quite satisfied if it can continue to average almost 34mpg![]()

Getting the absolute most of my current tank - 389.5km on half a tank.
This was driving from Etobicoke to Owen Sound and back, and driving like a complete WUSS (anywhere between 80 - 110 with moments of 50 when HWY 10 got into the small towns. It was painfully unbearable but the cops were everywhere) in a 2.0L AT. Computer says after the trip that AVG fuel cons. was 6.3L/km. NOW....on to getting it back higher

Wow guys,
Ive never heard of a car with so much devience in fuel economy. Fuel economy was one of my main concerns when I was considering a new car. Having a love for engines and technology, so what engine output. When I looked at the matrix XRS, it had the same rated fuel economy as the mazda 3. I testdrove both. More torque in the mazda, more power in the matrix. After driving it for 2 years now, even when I auto x it or bring it to the track, I have never hit below 27mpg (us) (8.7 l/100km), I dont do many long trips, so Ive only hit as high as 36mpg (us) (6.5 l/100km). I usually average around 32mpg(7.3 l/100km).
I have heard of small deviances from other XRS owners, but none as far as going from 40mpg to 20mpg.... Thats insane.
Im happy with averaging 32mpg. Especially when it put 170whp to the ground with just an intake.
Plus I tach 3500 rpm ish at 120kmph... on a 6 speed....
Some guys who have had mileage problems reccomend reseting the ecu (pulling the battery or ecu fuse)... I have not had the same luck, but if you have bad mileage, try it out. I think it may be different in our cars, because when we drive agressive, the car becomes noticably more responsive with continued use.
04 Toyota Matrix XRS.
Latest Update...I\'ve just reached half tank mark= 328km on the trip....100 percent city driving, but I decided to drive more conservatively; gear changes below 3000rpm, very little down-shifting etc;
Psivic I use both Petro Can and Sunoco gas whichever is closer. But alas I did think of something I did that might have caused the change...I had to disconnect my battery for approx an hour to rewire my head unit, apparently when they installed my system they crossed a couple of wiresarc ....so anyways maybe my computer cleared itself and hense some better numbers.
Several weeks from now I\'ll be taking a cruise out to Ottawa =99 percent highway driving,...I\'m curious what kind of mileage I\'ll get.

Just an update.
Filled up a full tank @petro canada.
Managed to sorta \'granny\' my driving habit and managed 615kms on a full tank.
I\'ve just been easing up on the gas since gas prices are so damn high these past few weeks.
Other than that the car is not fun at all to drive when grannying! lol...
I do about 20 km highway, 10 km city every day for work.
i get mmmm 473km and the needle is low but the light has not turned on.
=(
even when granny driving this is what i get.
when the light comes on @ around 480ish that means you are doing about 8.5-9L/100km which is pretty much standardOriginally posted by irietek

i jus got 640 kms on a tank
thats the most i ever gotten with this car
just broke the record for my car... did 690km on 46.8L of gas... the lights turned on and i gave it anther 30km.
Driving style is very easy... and 90% on hwy (will be 120km/hr)... even local, it\'s 80km/hr~ (road limit, so ppl usually do 100km/hr)

There is NO WAY you are getting 35 - 39 MPG with a 3.

Reset trip-meter each time I gas up (fill tank completely).
Write on gas receipt the number of kilometers to that tank (volume of fuel).
Take receipt home and enter into fuel log spreadsheet.
fuel economy = (volume of fuel x 100) / # of kilometers driven
This measurement is sourced directly from Natural Resources Canada\'s Fuel Consumption Calculator.
http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/transportatio...ut.cfm?attr=16
Now to describe how I manage to attain the higher than normal (for Mazda 3 owners) fuel efficiency, I:
- live in a rural area (cannot stand urban areas - something to do with a higher % of idiots)
- travel 30km to work, 3 stop signs on route
- travel an average of ~90 km/h
- make efficient use of car travel in urban areas (read above)
- drive a manual transmission car
- I\'m easy on the accelerator
Getting the results I have is not rocket science but just driving with fuel consumption in mind. That isn\'t to say I don\'t enjoy my car and the fun that can be had with it, I just choose my times when the road becomes curvy. For the record, the 39.1 mpg I measured for April 7 still boggles me, but the numbers don\'t lie.
