If you use winter tires, make sure you mention this to your insurance company, as it can help lower your premiums a bit. It depends on the company though. Belair offers a discount for having winter tires on your car during the appropriate months.

There is a theory which states that a billion monkeys pounding on a billion keyboards will eventually produce the works of Shakespeare.
Thanks to the Internet, we now know this theory is wrong.

ughhh yeah I just called Bel-air this afternoon and apparently it's "Bodily Injury" and "Accident Benefits" that went up specifically, which caused most people's insurance to increase this year. She said she saw similar cases to what Angela had just mentioned. I suppose my increase isn't too bad, but still annoying. Could have made that windshield claim after all...
I have an absolute clean record and my prems. went up by $4/month. This was the first time it had gone up for me. There are many factors i.e. number of accidents in your territory, statistics change, insurance company might be focusing on a different age bracket than what you were in and etc...

I've heard someone tell me almost $75 or something a month...cant remember who they with (non-mazda owner) so I guess us 3 owners should consider ourselves lucky...but She_Prime, I feel your pain...$50 increase would be painful.
I got a 50$ increase PER MONTH last year when I move from Mississauga to Mississauga.

175 with discounts and crap, it's high still considering
I was quoted $113 month for 2010 Sport GT Auto. This is with staff discount, additional discount for having Fire Insurance with same company and further discount by getting quote done online. This is RBC Insurance.
I just had a long talk with my agent and they told me some good information, it's true and basically when you hear people getting low low rates, it's either 1. A group insurance, not a mutual insurance like most companies (state farm) or 2. The area.
Basically he ran quotes for me and weather I drove a Porsche or high end BMW or my mazda/subaru the prices stay pretty much the same, with maybe 10-15$ more a month for the porsche. So what drives it up, is mainly the experiences of the driver, the liability basically. That which factors in the area you live in. If I just moved to oakville or waterloo/london, whatever further from GTA, my rates would go down probably $40-$50 a month meaning I would be paying $120ish. So don't believe everyone with their low rates, it's probably the area and group insurance rates.
I'm 29 and have excellent record and with mutiple car/line discounts I still am paying $170ish

my insurance went up over 2,000 dollars this year (as of February 18). Looked around and will be switching to Allstate, which quoted me a price cheaper then before the 2000 dollar increase.
