Default Chipped Paint & Touch-Up Paint

Arghh... a couple of days ago I realised my front end of the hood had a few chipped \'dots\', a very tiny area, you wouldn\'t see it if you were 3 metres away. As my title suggests, I screwed up applying the touch up pain to the area. It looks horrible. Never seen my mazda3 in worse condition. It\'s like one unsmooth blob of paint. Just plain horrible. Is there any remedy I could apply?

Still waiting for my protective film to stick on to protect further damage...

Scratch/sand off the paint and try using one of these:

I should have waited to get one of these markers. Have you tried sanding paint from the car? I think it\'ll hard not to scratch the surrounding areas.

A trick I learned from FX Auto.

Used some diluted laquer paint thinner. 2(thinner):1(Water) ratio. make sure you have a hose or bucket of water with a soaked cloth nearby.
Use the diluted thinner on the corner of a towel and lightly rub away the paint with the thinner.
IMMEDIATELY wash off any residue of the thinner with lots of water.
Then touchup the chip with something fine, like a pin head or a toothpick.

Using this method, don\'t leave the thinner on your car for longer than a minute. If you can\'t get all the touch-up out in a minute, then rinse the area and repeat the process.

FX uses this process all the time to touch up chips in cars they detail. The fact that you aren\'t letting the thinner sit for longer than a minute, and you are using it on such a small surface area (hence why you use the corner of the towel) you won\'t damage the paint or the clearcoat.

    Mazda3 SOLD. Bye Bye XeBa

Cool... thanks Xenon for the tip.

I actually went down to FX on Saturday, didn\'t realise they were closed. Anyway, I wanted to get them to do the protective film on the hood for me. I wonder how much they charge.
