HID and auto-sensing headlights.. (Xenon Store)

I'm looking at picking up an HID kit from Devin in the next 2 months or so, but have a concern over how it's going to function. I've searched and asked questions before but still am not getting a real answer.

First off, if I get HID's installed, I want them to be my DRL (I don't want to be missing my DRL, or have them disabled). However, when I say I want them to be my DRL, I don't mean I want my headlights turned on (on as in the car thinks it's dark outside).

What I want:

Daytime: HID as DRL - tailights and interior dash lights OFF. (auto-headlight setting turned to 'auto.')

Night time: HID as main headlights - taillights and interior dash lights ON. (auto-headlight turned to 'auto.')

I don't want my foglights to be a part of any equation. Is the above possible?

Simply because I don't want my fogs running during the day and I don't want to be DRL-less.

Yeah, that's my suspicion. What is the default operation of HID's when installed? I've also sent Jeff at Lockdown an e-mail regarding my concerns.

Its possible, you're just running your HIDs as you would you halogens right now. The only difference is that your DRLs are your low beams with a little less power than when they are 'on'. This can be detrimental to your HIDs. The main concern with HIDs is that when starting the low beams/DRLs turn on while the power fluctuates which can be harmful to your HID system. Talk to an installed to see what can be done.

Isn't that why you do the DRL bypass, then after say 8 seconds you toss on the light switch to auto/on once the voltage has stabilized?

I don't particularly want to have to change the light switch - I leave it on 'auto' all the time. Ideally, I'd like to keep it that way.

It's not that much effort, heck I have to do it every day on my Jeep.

I used to have the exact same setup that lars is talking about

i left the dial on the stalk to auto, while my hid's ran 24/7!
during the day, the interiour lights and all that jazz were off, during the night they were all turned on.

i can't rememebr how it was done (a former memebr did it for me) but it basically gives your HID's a constant 12V signal all the time.

this might work - get the relay harness and use the low beam + as your trigger. your HIDs will be on full output all the time. i'm pretty sure the power from the lowbeam + on DRL mode would be enough to turn on the relay, but then again mine is wired differently so you might have to just test and see how it will work.

I don't see why skunk2's suggestion wouldn't work. Even with the voltage going all weird at startup, it's only powering across the coil in the relay. The HID ballasts are still getting constant 12v from the battery.

as long as he uses a relay, he can pretty much use any trigger he wants.
I would still prefer just using the fogs as the DRL, fog bulbs are cheaper than HID bulbs when you think of it in terms of their life span.

yes, i think devin includes them now on all HID kit he sells...don't quote me on this though. I'm sure he sells them separately too. will you be installing this yourself? making the harness is not difficult.

AH you don't have a harness, ya you can make one up for a few bucks at Ctire or get one pre-fab from Devin. His is awesome btw.

I have the eurolite hid kit. Lockdown installed it. I have the 6000k and love it. No problems. Here is a pic of the colour.

Nah I don't have any. Sorry. My camera sucks and the front end shots just come out all blurry. However, I do love the eurolite kit.
