Question dutch dealership wants to buy my car

Hi, I'm back with my idea to export my car in europe (if I go).
I contacted a dutch dealership (http://www.jsteam.nl/) to have some infos about car import because they have one 2.3L (us version) to sale.

    here is what he replied:

"Thats a realy nice car the Mazda3 2.3L. I would be happy to buy it if you bring it to The Netherlands!
If you give me some more information like VIN number and year i wil try if it is possible to give you the information you need."

my question (stupid, maybe) is: can I communicate him my VIN? do you think there is a trick behind...

    thanks for your advice/help.

If you got in touch with them first, I wouldn't be too concerned.

If someone randomly contacts you for information, that's when you want to start asking questions.

Something sounds VERY fishy here... I wouldn't give them the VIN.

So you're trying to export your car from toronto to Netherlands, and the Dutch dealership there is trying to buy your car?

It's not worth it to give him the VIN. You don't really know him. There are insurance scams that can be pulled off with VINs.

Can he give him all but the last few digits so the guy can know whatever details he wants to know about the car?

It's also possible that he needs the VIN to do research on the vehicle before importing it.

Isn't the whole idea of exporting the car, to drive it when you get there? If not, you could just sell it here with less hassle.

Yes, those are both very good points.

I don't see the point of going through all this hassle - unless he offers like double of what you would get here for the car.

Has he indicated roughly how much he'd give you for it? It would have to be a sum worthwhile for making you go through all this.

Also, I thought the purpose of exporting the car would be so that you didn't have to spend the coin buying a new car there? Selling them your 3 would defeat the purpose.

I think it's best to sell it here, if you're selling it after all. I'm guessing it's quite a hassle to import a car, insurance, customs (?), transportation, which all might take few months and end up just selling it. I'm not sure if it's worth it to go through all that to sell it overseas... Unless that dealer is willing to pay all importing fees.

yes, I contacted the guy (w/o giving the VIN) to have an idea about that: sell him the car more than I bought it, just to see if it's possible...

It really doesn't matter, I'm guessing he just wants importing information. If you can hold out go for it. You're not gonna sell the car right away, so why give him the VIN, he can get it when you're ready to sell.

i am not sure i would be worried about giving my vin to a dealership
but i would make sure that he need that info before i gave it to him!

if he is willing to pay good money . . hell we should all start shipping our cars!

    lol

    or shipping new ones!

If that's the case, wouldn't everyone start buying cars here and selling it there?
