    Default Wheel bearing

I think my wheel bearings are shot in the front
There is a constant noise like the tires are flat or something

"whooom whooom whoooom" the faster I go the faster the noise

    Has anyone had theirs changed?
Whats the expected cost on this?

How long can I wait to hold off on this?
My next oil change is in 4000km (mind you I put on 150km a day so its not that far off) and was hoping to wait it out and do it at Mazda?

....well atleast they lasted more than 100k unlike mine, as i understand they are engineered to last 150k miles or so...if one side is shot, i suggest replace the other side too, be on the safe side...

and from what i read about wheel bearings....If ignored, a noisy wheel bearing may suddenly fail — with potentially deadly consequences if the vehicle were to lose a wheel.

^^^Like Matrix said. But, I'm wondering if it really is the bearings from the noise you described.Wheel bearings will give you a constant high pitched whine or occur sometimes only at certain speeds, unless they are really shot than you could hear a constant grinding sound which would be very noticeable at slow speeds...Either way MK, I would have it checked ASAP and expect to fork out some cash, as front wheel bearings are not cheap and you should change both at the same time.

if one side goes, the other side is going, so replace both, and bearings can sound in many different ways, i would check it out, ijust in case its something else

I had mine repleaced a year or so ago, if i remember correctly i paid like 183 bucks... i think it was per side....the bearing itself is pressed and needs a strong press to get it back in, if you do change them, get a good mechanic to do it....i wouldnt go to mazda cause 90+ bucks and hour is a little much to pay for labour, my mechanic did it in about 2.5-3 hours, which is about the same as a mazda tech, but at half the cost..it'll probably cost you about 400 bucks......i could get the bill and give a specific answer, but im lazy right now...

    Not the wheel bearings

Just cheap tires that are making all the noise

I had a similar problem a while ago. It sounded like a flat spotted or out of balance tire. It made a slight thumping sound. I took it to Westowne 3 times & they were finally able to figure out that there was a hairline crack in the LH steering knuckle. I remember hitting a pothole pretty hard with the left front that's probably what did it. It was fixed under warranty, but I think the warranty bill was something like $700 to Mazda.

Help....I just got back from mississauga mazda and they told me my wheel bearings need to be replaced. They quoted me $695 to replace both the front wheel bearings. I think this is a little steep. Can anyone suggest a trusted mechanic that would do this for cheaper?? Also, do i need to use a mazda bearing seeing as it has failed after only 67000km? I need a response quick please.
    Thanks.

That sounds about right for the cost of two front wheel bearings installed...I am not sure that the aftermarket bearing/hub is much cheaper...

    good luck

It's almost 98,000 ks and I' hearing a sound from the rear. Loud winding sound. Moved the tires from the back to the front and noise is still there. It's gotta be the wheel bearings. Anyone, know a good mechanic? Speedtech may be a little to far for me.

I had my change 2 weeks ago left side. Parts were cheap.. like $50 but labour cost like $150. I wonder when my right side will go??

FYI, on the door it will say Friendly Auto or something, just go in and ask for Jimmy, make sure it's #17.

Dude, if you can, go to the States.. things are usually 50-75% cheaper over there.. esp. on parts like suspension, brakes, tires, etc..

you close to anything that is a US border there?
You can always call like Pep Boys, Autozone, Murray's, and phone-in an order and have it delivered..
