just to have it installed i'll ask my shop on monday
The Hiboost downpipe does not have a cat right?
it does
I added a bunch of info.... hope it helps!
Cant wait to see pics after its installed!
LOL! Thanks guys
I should take some pics. I think I saw some online from Imporfest... If I find some, I'll post em up
Sounds good to me!
I have been reading ALOT about turbos and even gone to many shops in the GTA asking questions about it and still feel i don't know much about it at all. I gotta say though, after hearing from alot of shops "a turbo is a turbo, doesn't matter which one you get" it has me a little more at ease. The one thing i do know that is different is the fuel management and HiBoost really did a fantastic job with the Mazda3 kit. I am more than likely going with that setup.
Hopefully John will help me with installation next summer (god willing)
If I was going to install a turbo.... this is the route I would go:

2008 Carbon Gray GT Sedan 5 Speed
A turbo is not just a turbo....
slap a T66 on your Mazda3 and see how long it takes to spool, etc.
Hi-Boost did a good job with the Haltech, no doubt about it. Its rich, and safe for everyday. If I was going to do it again, I would go with the Reactive Racing kit. Dee really really knows his stuff.... too bad he wasnt around when I did my setup.
Scott - I am pretty hands on, but I had a buncha buddies there helping out, who are better than me If I am free I would stop in and lend whatever help I can be of!
-John
lol i know that turbos are different, but i meant in comparison by company, I was told many of the more popular turbo kits are Garrett turbos anyways (#1 manufacturer i would assume?!?!)
I think a T66 would last "maybe" a week... 2 at best hahahaha!
I am pretty confident with HiBoost and the fact you have been running it so long is a confidence boost (no pun intended) *lol*
You can be sure I will be in-touch when it comes time to put in the kit, thanks again John.
Lotek still has the gauges for sale ($45) on their site too

Do not go with Hiboost at the moment. There are MANY stories of if taking 6 months to a year to receive all the parts. As more and more kits are coming out at the moment I would suggest looking at them instead. There are currently 3 new ones on the market. Reactive Racing, Tri-point(2.3L only at the moment), and F2(currently a Stage 1 is around, Stage 2, which is intercooled, is in the works).
Choose one of those, the Hi-boost kit is nice, but who knows how long you'll be waiting for it. Only way to go Hi-boost at the moment is if you can find one selling used.

Excellent point.... Manuel and Jaun are brutally hard to get a hold of these days. Dee and Reactive would be my choice.
Turbos are turbos in a sense. Some are more efficient etc. Ball bearing or jacket bearing, size etc. A T66 would last you forever... since it would never spool LOL.
-John
hahaha John you got me on that one! Here i was thinking it spooled so fast your engine would blow! Shows what i know about turbos *lol*
Dee would want my car for 2 days too! since i would have to stay there and would be very difficult to go back, he wants to make sure the intallation goes smoothly so he wants to run alot of tests to ensure everything goes well. His prices were on par, just some of my questions to him seemed to be misconstrued. I guess i will see how HiBoost goes next summer as im more confident in that kit simply because of high volume production, but i guess there are other good options to consider.
thanks guys
Hi-Boost is no longer high number though...read the FI section on M3F, theres a lot of bad stories on there...
HiBoost was never high number, just the only option. Manuel told me last year they made 8 kits total, and he isnt sure if they even all sold lol.
-John
Really? Holy shit, I thought it was more in the 20 kit range. Guess just Hi-boost kits being passed about and some old SCI kits running around...
Yeah, when every person boosted pretty much is running one, it makes it seem like a high number. Surprisingly the number of boosted people is low!
How is your car running atm john?
Great! Well except I think the Pulley Tensioner is pooched, but thats common and non boost related
about 30,000 KM since boosting, and its held very nice! 138K KMs and still stock clutch. I have the ACT in my basement, but I have been lazy, and it aint broken! LOL
i wish i had the money to boost. I'd call dee in a second if i did, and had an mtx. Gotta pay off the last 9500 of my car too. Perhaps sometime ill get to see your car at a meet some time
Let me know when your hitting one up, and I will see what I can do. I am up in Innisfil a lot on weekends too. This one is yet another wedding, but I think Friday night I may be.. PM me if your around!
