Thumbs up DashHawk 2 - Review

So after getting my new DashHawk 2 and playing with it for a couple of days I am completely in love with this toy!
The list of it’s features is soo long that I won’t even mention them all. For those of you that want to get all the details, you can find them here .

Here is the list of my favorite features:

    • No wiring or sensor installation required!!! It just plugs into the OBDII plug and reads everything from it. It is just as easy to remove it – simply unplug it. Also can be use on ANY car that has an OBDII plug.
    • It reads and clears (!) CELs. It actually gives you the code right on the screen. Even if the light is not on anymore, but the code hasn’t been cleared it would still read it.
    • Among a very long list of gauges and readings it can display, it also shows your AFR. I have compared it to the independent AFR gauge that I have installed and calibrated with a sensor and it is completely on par.
    • No need to have multiple gauges on your dash anymore. It has pretty much everything you would want including boost, oil temp, fuel pressure, fuel level, gas consumption and the list goes on and on and on…
    • You can select multiple gauges showing on one screen and it’s really easy to scroll between screens. Just use the up and down scroll buttons on the side.
    • Fully customizable color LED backlit display 16 000 000 colour combinations. You can easily match your interior color lighting or go with something funky like pink for example
    • Speed and RPM warnings. Very cool feature. I had it preset so that when I reach 70km/hr it changes display color to blue, then at 120km/hr to green and at 145 km/hr it just turns completely black. Helps a lot to prevent speeding.
    • ¼ mile runs. It gives you the complete breakdown of your response time, total time, top speed etc.. just like a regular slip.
    • Tracking. Instead of constantly starring at the screen while driving, you can set it to record and when you’re done just see the results on the screen or on your computer through a USB cable. It also comes with some really neat software that shows you your performance graphs.
    • It also measures your HP. Didn’t really get a chance to compare it to a dyno run, but it seemed pretty accurate given the weather conditions.
Basically I could go on about it forever, but in my eyes the best thing about this unit it the value you get for the price. Let’s say you were to get just a AFR gauge and a code reader it would come out to be more. And with the DashHawk you get soooooo much more!

Oh! And almost forgot – you can set your unit to the ‘valet’ mode and it will record everything that has been going on with your car while someone else has been driving it (time, speed, rpm, ¼ mile etc). You also have the option to PIN protect the valet mode so that no one would be able to end the recording without having that PIN.

How does wheel spin affect 1/4 times? Cuz I assume it uses the car odometer to measure distance.

I'm an information junkie. It's devices like this that makes me go through withdrawl. There really is no need for this but I want it. Man thats so kewl. Vlad, did you mount it in the car in the location shown in the pictures?

Am I right in assuming those of us with GT's have the OBII-on- Knobi plugs?

Hey vlad you need to find a cool way to mount it.. there is no way your cool with it there... Figured youd have some custom fiberglass job done with just the screen and buttons showing come on! Make it permanant! Loooks like a tricked out box! I wish I cared about all those things.... My Mazda doesnt put out enough pwer to care ... nor does it go fast enough to impress me on 1.4 mile times... lol.... Im always electrically challenged.. Need I say more. But if I was a numbers guy, Id love to see one in action! Now bring on the fiberglass!
