    Default Stone Chip in Windshield

I've got a stone chip in my windshield. I'm in Rexdale (Etobicoke) where should I got to get it filled (properly!)?

On my Sunfire, I had mine filled by some guy in a parking lot of a flea market. That flea market's not there anymore or I'd recommend him.

I think the point though, is that it's a pretty basic process, so I wouldn't be too concerned about where you get it done... so long as you get it done soon.

I paid a pretty penny to get my bullseye fixed at speedy, but you can get the equivalent kit for $10 at Ctire (which I found out afterwards).

I know Speedy does lifetime replacement windshield if it cracks from the chip.

Make sure you ask them about replacement. Basically they gave me a disclaimer when I went to Speedy for a chip. They said the repair my not make it completely disappear. Also they said it could crack during the repair which would cause you to replace the windshield, etc. Kind of covers their ass really.

True, most established auto glass places will warranty their work. If it cracks, the payment made for the repair will go towards the replacement of the glass (the repair has to be done by them).
But would you get the glass replaced at anywhere other than a Mazda dealer? I recall some members that had problems (especially with the rain sensor) when getting windshield replaced at generic auto glass places.

Because of this I usually just get it done at a place that looks competent enough to do it properly (and like WW said, it's pretty routine repair). If they have warranty, that’s great but if it ends up cracking I’ll most likely goto Mazda to replace the glass.

I've heard of leaking issues from anyone who replaces be it dealer or not. I'll be loking at a competent place with price. There's a speedy just down the road from me so I'll take it there.

It's a work computer. I don't really know what's driving the video. Your sig gif has a very high frame rate. That's the problem. And it doesn't help that your avatar is an animated gif also. You're not violating any rules or anything and my work computer is out of date. But I still hate it. I guess I could turn off sig displaying.

Way to stay on topic guys! :p

I got the stone chip filled, but I didn't do it with the warantee. Speedy wanted $80 if I were to get the warantee. Which would only credit me $80. I paid 40 cash and got it filled. If it cracks I'll replace it anyway. I'm looking to replace it in the summer for sure. Time to start shopping for quotes.

Interesting.... I didn't know they had different prices for warranty & non-warranty work. So what? Do they get the "new guy" to do it if non-warranty and get the experienced guy if it is? Odd.

Edit: Oh... or is it a cash/under the table thing with no invoice? That makes more sense.

Here's the deal....asked the guy about warantee (he's mobile just happened to be at the Speedy shop I pulled into) and he said he would have to call it in for warantee. So I talked to his boss and he said it would be 80 plus tax. So I said I'd work it out with his mobile guy. The guy said $40 cash no warantee so I'm guessing its under the table.

At home in Kitchener I've gone to a place that $30 with warantee and they did a much better and faster job. I just don't have enough time at home right now with school and work so I got one when and where i had time.

I had a halfmoon repaired at canadian tire last weekend. The guy was VERY busy. I got there first thing in the morning and i was his first customer. By the time I left, there were about 6 other cars in line waiting.

As for the quality of work, he did a decent job with mine. He said he couldn't make it disappear but at least it won't crack (warranty for life). I noticed a tiny air bubble inside the chip after he filled it. If not for that, I'd say his work would have been perfect. I don't think the bubble is a big deal though....

Its like $40 now, but its still a deal. Its called 'All-brite' autoglass. On manitou by Fairway road. Not to far from the pizza hut on manitou just before the bend. Across from the Jag place. Hope that helps
