    Default Long distance calls

For the past week or so, I've been getting many long distance phone calls to my house where there's noone on the other side. It has the distinct long distance ring. I pick up, say hi, and there's noone there. I wait 5-10 seconds, still noone. This happens ~2-5 times a day and has been happening on and off for the past week. I don't have call display, so I have no idea who is doing this. Its bugging the hell out of me, especially since its exam time!

I would call your service provider and complain. They can find out what the number is and have it blocked.

Hmmm...it happened twice since my first post. Just found out they hang up 15-20 seconds afterwards. Ugh this blows

When I lived in Waterloo, someone had an auto dialer that just rang away at our number....when I called it back, no answer....then I called Bell, they gave me the name of the business trying to call...some motel...they blocked the number and I called the motel to yell at them...this was over 10yrs ago tho...

Nowadays, that could be a Skype call from pranksters...

I *69, and it gave me some 888 number. Tried to google it, but came up with nothing. I filed it with Bell, so we'll see what happens.

From what I understand, there are companies with auto dialers that call numbers and record if someone picks up the phone. They do this so that a real person can call back at a time that they assume you will be home (based on you picking up) and then they can harass you in person.

I get these daily, so I say hello once, and if no one answers within 3 seconds, I hang up without saying anything else. There are some telemarketing places that have one hell of a delay on them speaking also, but really, I don't want to talk to them either. Their loss

But yeah - until we are able to have a full on DNCR (do no call registry - one currently exists, but it hasn't been fully backed by the province or consumers yet), there isn't much even your phone company can do. You can complain about it to them, but with the volume of this happening and the number of complaints (and you are probably getting about 10 different numbers calling you), it won't be easily solved.
