An Oakville man has been charged after police spotted a driver racing two-and-a-half times the posted speed limit on the Highway 401 in a Mustang.

The OPP went looking for a speeding car after another driver called to complain about an aggressive motorist seen whizzing in and out of lanes and swerving past other vehicles in Middlesex County.

The sports car was clocked Tuesday on police radar at 154 kilometres an hour, but then evaded officers, hitting speeds above 210 km/h, police said.

Officers managed to stop the driver near Union Road. He admitted he'd driven as fast as 260 km/h on the 100 km/h posted highway, police said.

Robert Bacon, 60, of Oakville is charged with dangerous driving and evading police. He's to appear in court in London on June 23.

Admitting to the police that he has reached speeds of 260 cannot be a smooth move... I hope he knows that anything he says can and will be held against him in a court of law

At that point, though, does it really matter? They were chasing him at 210. What's an extra 50kph when you're already talking 110kph?

Henceforth, admitting to the police how fast you actually went will be known as pulling a ROBERT BACON.
