im 16 and i bought a 04 mazda 3 sedan. I got it in standard. in my opinion i like the sedan better

Too late to help you buddy, but I bought a hatch when I had to make my choice. It seems to stand out more in my opinion and I've gotten comments on how good my car looks compared to regular 4-door sedans like Civics and Sentras.

I went for the hatch, its just the perfect fit for my lifestyle. I still ride BMX (20" trick bikes) and so I needed my car to fit them. I had a Van to start, it was epic at fitting bikes but no so epic in the turns. I then had a sedan for a short bit and while it was more fun to drive, it became a two seat coup the moment I put a bike into it. The Hatch 3 covers all my needs, it fits my bike and still has room for my friends. Its a joy to drive and fells super responsive with the stick shift.

It really comes down to your needs. I just think its nice to have the extra room for when you need it.
