    Default Emission's Test Result's

I went in for the emissions test today. My b-day being in Feb. and it being an '04, I figured I might be the 1st one in the club that has done this. LOL!

    2004 Mazda 3 GT:

    -AEM intake
    -Magnaflow Catback exhaust.

    Results: Pass

    ASM 2525:
    HC ppm: Limit - 66, Reading -6
    CO%: Limit - 0.37, Reading - 0.00
    NO ppm: Limit - 505, Reading - 0

    Curb Idle
    HC ppm: Limit - 150, Reading -9
    CO%: Limit - 0.70, Reading - 0.41
    NO ppm: Limit - N/A , Reading - N/A

The car was near perfect and no issues to be concerned of.

So if any of you are interested in posting your results, go ahead. This may be helpful for others who are concerned with this type of test.

It is a waste of money, I agree. They should be testing vehicles later than 6 years old if you ask me. It's a big cash crab. The whole thing with vehicles not being tested if they are over 20 years is b.s. Those are the vehicles that pollute the most.

Why don't you post the results sheet? ...for comparison sakes!!

We can sticky this thread for others to post their results also, I'm sure it would be helpful somehow, if not interesting

Thanks for posting the result numbers on your original post! ....So it looks like, other then when our cars are idling they cause practically (0) pollution!!....What a crock the whole DriveClean is!!....they should be going after much older cars!! ...and trucks and equipment spewing out diesel....they are the culprits!

The engine mods do not necessarily increase pollutants released. Like he probably kept his cats in so that would make a big difference.

    for the record....

cars must be tested after they are 4 years old. (ie, 2004 mazda3's are now subject to testing)
and its every 2 years after that.
i've done numerous mazda3's and 6's, and they all passed with flying colours.
    however, i had a '04 mazda6, with 260kms, that failed.

(i am, btw, an emissions tester..)

so you get to pass yourself? If exhaust or intake does not affect it then...what does? Neglecting to maintain the car?

    haha no.
it usually has to do with failing emissions control systems.
ie, O2 sensors, MAF sensors, egr valves, that sorta thing.
if you car is heavily modded, and tuned properly, it should still pass.
we had an Acura EL, with an full aftermarket turbo kit, and it passed with flying colours... or my buddys jetta that was complete opposite, and failed miserably.

Did mine in August, 2008 when I bought it, 2004 GT, at 135,000kms

    ASM 2525:
    HC ppm: Limit - 66, Reading -7
    CO%: Limit - 0.37, Reading - 0.00
    NO ppm: Limit - 505, Reading - 3

    Curb Idle
    HC ppm: Limit - 150, Reading -6
    CO%: Limit - 0.70, Reading - 0.04
    NO ppm: Limit - N/A , Reading - N/A

Thats completely stock, not even a K&N filter. So not much difference under load, but curb idle was much different!

I was a little worried because of the Vibrant cat back
My birthday is Feb 4th and I have an 04. Crap. Gotta go soon. Thanks for the reminder.

Do I have to drive the car around for a while before going in?

Catback won't affect anything, no worries. Make sure its nice and hot before you go in, and a recent oil change is always good, clean air filter... chances are you'll have nothing to worry about! A warmed up catlytic converter works much better than a cold one, but if the Emissions tester/tech is trained properly, then they will make sure the car is warmed up before testing it anyways. If they don't then you are in a shady testing center that is looking to make money off the repairs suggestions. Have to be careful, especially in Toronto!
I had a bad experience with a civic I bought in TO, guy had what looked to be a valid e-test certificate, so I bought the car. Took it into the ministry, wasn't even for the civic, even though all the car details on the page matched the car, the UPC/Test ID number was for a completely different car. They were reported.... lol
New cat and the car passed fine anyways... ($75 aftermarket one)

Like Kevcol says, make sure she's nice and warm when you bring her in and you should have no problems.I'll add also that an oil change would be a good idea if your due, but if not, one or two tank fulls before going in, throw some Redline gas treatment in the tank to clean things up.

Post your results MK, I'm curious having the Vibrant system also.

    not necessarily.
when i do the test, the car has to go thru a "preconditioning" stage first.
which is driving the car at 40km/h for 60 seconds.
and for the majority of cars, the car is warmed up just fine after that period.
but warming it up first yourself wont hurt.
