    Default Packaging Materials..

Just curious if anyone else keeps the packaging material for anything they buy?

I was going through my basement and find its being filled up with boxs.

Ie) Box my router came in - 2 years old
Box TV came in - Boxing Day 08 (Im trying to keep the g/f from throwing out incase we need to move it someday)
Packaging GPS came in (Xmas O8)
Xbox 360 Box with packaging from quick charge base, package my headset/remote came in. (1.5 years old)

I have more on top of that..Im really paranoid when I move stuff (I worked at a moving company for 8years), and love to package things in their original box if possible.

Anyone else a packaging pack rat?

I tend to keep boxes for the reasons you have cited (moving), especially electronics.

Example: I still have my PS2 box (from when I purchased it 5+ years ago) and used it when I moved in 2007. I have all the boxes to my camera and camera equipment too.

Problem, like you said is that you end up getting a collection of boxes to store for the next move.

Guilty as well... My Yamaha Reciever, DVD player, Computer Monitor, Sat Receiver.... basically any of my home electronics still have boxes, and alot I've had over 7 years. Same reason, there to pack for moving. Just sold my old projector recently, had the original packaging to put it in for the new owner!

I love keeping the original boxes from my purchases too.

Definitely comes in handy during a move but the problem is storing the boxes before/after the move!

I try to follow a rule where if an item is more than 5 years old I get rid of the box. Of course some boxes I will get rid of beforehand while others I will keep for longer if the item is very valuable. I also try packing the smaller boxes into the bigger boxes to save space.

Guilty as well. One reason I keep the boxes is incase I sell the item one day. I find it more appealing to have it in the original box with everything.

I still have the boxes for our

    XBOX360
    PS3
    Camera
    Car mods
    Lap Top
    Lots of baby stuff
    DVD players
    Printer...

    It never ends....

I keep the larger boxes to use to organize things. Computer part boxes end up holding the warrenty, install discs and manuals.

Bubble wrap i end up keeping because I keep on thinking that I will find some kind of use for it.

I also keep my boxes for stuff. Never know when you are going to move and have to use boxes. The original boxes always help imho. I have rubbermaid boxes that I use for moving and storing stuff so I just put my boxes in them. Keeps them protected from the dampness of the basement and flooding.

If I do not have a use for the box for storage, then it finds itself in the garbage.

A lot of my stuff, the box goes soon after I got it as it means less things sitting around.

I hold onto boxes for about 2yrs then toss. There are a few I do keep, like the one for my camera, it now holds all my reciepts and manuals for my camera gear.

It's also a good idea to keep boxes, because I find it helps with any re-sale on certain items...depending on what it is....also it makes things easier to transport.
