    Default 2010 Mazda 3 GS - Anti-Theft Alarm System?

Hello, just got my 2010 Mazda 3 GS yesterday! I have a quick question about the "anti-theft alarm system", in the Trim level comparison chart on mazda's site it says the GS comes with "anti-theft alarm system", is this a normal alarm system that is supposed to go off and make a sound or do I need to get some other alarm system that actual makes a sound if someone is trying to break into the car? If it doesnt make a sound, what does it actually do? If it is something I actually need to add to make a sound, what do you guys recommend and about how much is it gonna cost me?
    Thanks in advance!

Doh, I forgot to go through it with you... too many features.

    Anyhow.

It is essentially a burglar alarm, meaning if someone breaks into the car, the alarm will sound. It is not a shock sensor or a proximity alarm.

To activate you just lock the doors with the remote button and if the lights blink your good.
    Damn you photobucket.....

Thanks a lot Jeff! So many bells and whistles in this car that its hard to remember half the things As long as there is some sort of alarm on it I'm good with that. Would the shock sensor or proximity alarm be something that you just add on to the current system or is that a completely seperate component? and if I do decided to get a shock sensor/proximity addon, roughly how much $$ am I looking to spend?

I would check the sponsors for additional alarm system.

They have some that doesn't seem too pricey!

Yeah I thought the anti-theft alarm would have the light on the dashboard or something... where it's more visible. but it's right beside the speedometer

Your car is NEW so I wouldn't look into getting an aftermarket alarm. This will just void your warranty. The alarm that you have in the car is OK but not the best.

    Just wondering,

Does Mazda offer a shock sensor add-on to the built in alarm?

Do just the lights have to blink? Or do the lights have to blink and the horn honk?

If the alarm is triggered... both happen.

If it's triggered both will happen, but to arm it don't you just have to hit the lock once to get the lights to flash? Or do you have to do it twice so that the horn honks too?

It's armed if the lights flash. The horn sound is to remind you you've already done it. Most people click it to hear the horn sound just to make sure. And to piss off the hawt blonde that may be walking by the car.

    But I've never done that......

The way I understand it is the doors are locked and the alarm system is armed when you click the 'lock' button once on the key fob. The parking lights will flash on the car as a confirmation but the horn will not honk.

As Cardinal Fang mentioned, the second time you hit 'lock' (within a few seconds after the first time), the horn will honk as a confirmation that you have locked and activated the system the first time around.

Though in my experience, I sometimes press the 'lock' once and I hear the doors lock but the lights don't flash. Weird...it's happened a couple of times but every time the doors were locked and I could see the red flashing signal on the dashboard indicating the alarm was acitivated. Ghosts in the machine perhaps?
