"It is amazing how many drivers, even at the Formula One Level, think that the brakes are for slowing the car down." -- Mario Andretti
next best mod after driver and tires and maybe a good seat belt
Not this year for sure...we'll see what the finance minister (wife) says after we get married...
agreed!
I think this is the same unit that is on the Focus RS, which Top Gear said is what gives the RS great handling (besides the Revo Knuckle), but harder to live with on a daily basis...I wonder why? Someone says it makes the car darty?
It's a slippery "might as well" slope when you do something like this...
...as long as you are pulling the tranny, you might as well put in a new clutch, and if you are doing that, you might as well put in a light weight flywheel....
Your $1,500 diff just turned into a $2,500 project...but it would be fun
Hmmmm. Fobio, maybe I can put a package price together for ya Clutch, Flywheel and Quaife LSD??
I disagree. A soft suspension will let the car down again and again. There's a reason my MX-5 no longer has the orginal springs, dampers and sway bars. However I agree that an LSD is very important, Mazdaspeed makes a 1.5 way LSD for my MX-5 but it will be a while before I install it. Great reading here.

Vincent, if I can offer you a word of advice; buy the LSD before you get married. I'm 2 weeks away from my wedding and the finance minister in my house, or should I say fiancee minister, is already laying down the law on my modding! She's already trying to implement an annual budget for aftermarket parts! Congrats by the way. I have the understanding that we are about to join an exclusive club with millions of members.
Is not here
A quaife will not put 100% power into 1 wheel. You would need a locker differential to do that. The quaife works on a helix system. The planet and sun gears in the diff have helically shapped (like DNA) ribs on the gears. So when one tire spins (or attempts to) it pushes sideways against the other axel forcing it against the diff housing. This then stalls the tire spin.
THis makes a quaife great for DD because it is pretty seamless and does a good job of resisting differential wheel speeds (one wheel spin). The flip side is if you ar in the rain and you have one tire on pavement and put one on the white line. the one tire will try to spin and put some force into the diff which can cause a bit of torque steer.
