    Default TM3 Times #11 - June 2009

    TM3 Times June 2009

First of all I am so sorry that I haven’t been able to get these out yet! I have been extremely busy starting my new career and getting things in order for that. Now that I have some much needed down time I can sit and relax and hammer this out for you all!

This month will again feature Cardinal Fang’s Thoughts From the Pulpit conveniently in relation to story number two.

First on the docket: Let’s Welcome the Original Post Whore Back to the land of Beavers and Maple Syrup!

Broli’s Back, and with a Vengeance!

It was a sad, sad day when a certain moderator from our TorontoMazda3 forums landed into Pearson Airport on that day in late May to only grace us with his presence a few days later at the annual BubbaQ (see next story).

WHAT THE HELL AM I TALKING ABOUT?!?!?

    We missed you!!

Broli’s adventures started in London, England as he worked his way across Europe and into parts of Northern Africa. Then he headed back through Europe once again to some of the destinations he had yet to see and visited some favourites from the first leg of the trip. He has the entire journey logged into many Facebook albums where I was privileged enough to steal a few choice shots. To see all of the shots PM Broli and ask him to add you to Facebook. They are quite amazing.

Alex is extremely strong! It must have been all the strength gained from the amazing food and alcohol he consumed on his travels.

    Charming Alex, charming:

And look who joined Alex on his travels for part of the adventure-

Our very own S.F.W. aka Ami!

    Charming Ami, charming:

S.F.W. joined Broli through his Italian excursions for approximately three weeks. While they were there they also visited the Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani Factories:

    Ferrari:

    Lamborghini:

    Pagani:

    Jealous?

And wherever Alex goes he’s always the ever crazy, awesome Broli that we all know!

He was with us in spirit every step of the way! Thanks for repping TM3 Alex! And officially welcome back

Thankfully Alex made it back in time for this:

    2009 Bubba Q

Sunday May 24 brought our Toronto Mazda 3 Crew down to Riverside Park in Cambridge Ontario for our annual BubbaQ hosted by Moderator bubba1983 aka Adam.

As you can see from this picture, days before the event Adam hurt his wrist severely causing it to be casted. The event was almost called off until the massive support of the entire community came together and assisted Adam with his special meet. Of course these two people cannot go unmentioned either:

Mr and Mrs. bubba1983 aka Adam’s parents who graciously donated their time and efforts to assist our club in having the best day possible! Thank you so much for your cooking and organization skills.

The day brought great weather to show off the rides, have some fun in the sun, and spend some time with good friends and meet new ones!

Jason Guttman from Oakville Mazda again graced us with his presence, brought out his 2010 modded hatch (as seen above) and brought his awesome family along for the ride! Thanks again for supporting the club Jason.

Fun was had by all in attendance. Some stayed cool under the gazebo while others were basking in the sun’s glory playing volleyball or with the kids.

The Hatch vs. Sedan volleyball game!

The TorontoMazda3 kids! On the left is KenYork’s son, and the right is OakvilleMazdaDP’s son

Of course no one could forget the prizes donated by many of our amazing sponsors. Included in the donations were gift certificates to NextMod, Simply Tire prizes, TM3 Stickers, Speakers, and car cleaning products.

(Peter of NextMod pictured here with Broli- Thanks Peter for your ongoing support!)

There was even a carpet install up for grabs! All the tickets for the prizes were completely free and mostly everyone walked away with something. Including Jeff-TheBiz who walked away with the greatest prize of them all! :

    Get your own tape!

Overall it was a great afternoon had by all in attendance. Thanks again Adam for everything you do for this club! I know you can never get enough recognition for the things you do but we all do appreciate you so much!

Usually this comes at the end but since it ties in so nicely with the last story here is Cardinal Fang’s Thoughts from the Pulpit!

    Thoughts from the Pulpit

Computers (specifically those naughty photos and videos on the Internet) haven't done much for Cardinal Fang's handwriting, but they have given him lots of practice in improving his right handing.

*Sound of radio alarm going off at 6:30 am and Fang reaches over to shut it off.*

Fang: Fark…… it feels like I fell asleep an hour ago.
Mrs. Fang: Ya well shut that thing off. Some of us want to sleep in this weekend.
Fang: Ah yes the weekend! I’ve got a long day ahead of me.
Mrs. Fang: Oh I forgot. Your doing that male bonding thingy out in Cambridge today.
Fang: Yes I am. But first I’m watching the Grand Prix from Monaco in an hour.
Mrs. Fang: Oh joy….more car related things for you to do today. You must jut be bursting at the seams with the thought of today. I now know what you were like when you were 10 years old.
Fang: You know….it’s people like you that cause unrest.
Mrs Fang: Smiles with evil grin.

So I walk myself to the family room and sit myself down in time to watch the “pinnacle of motor sport” race single file around the narrow streets of Monaco. Yes that’s right, they raced single file. There’s no room to pass so if you’re in front you stay in front. The streets are so narrow that a Vespa could have kept Jenson Button from passing. On the bright side the eye candy the camera guy kept focusing on in the stands and on the yachts standing beside their strange looking dates was spectacular.

Mental Note: The Escorts in Monaco may be more expensive then they appear.

After watching Brawn GP (BOOOOOOOO!) take the checkered flag I quickly gathered my things and met up with the Central guys for the cruise to Cambridge. What started off as a windy cool day in Toronto ended up being warm and comfortable in Cambridge. I was told by Bubba’s parents that they were responsible for the weather as well. Man these people from Newfoundland have connections. As I watch the cars roll in I could tell this was going to be a great turnout. The weather, the light hearted atmosphere, the food and the great company. So here are my favorite moments of the day.

    10. Watching S.F.W. hit a guy with a water balloon and then run away as the guy hunted him down like a dog. Bonus points awarded for style as the guy proceeded to do stretches before running after S.F.W.

    9. Phil………. I think that about sums it up.

    8. Marco and his uncanny ability to avoid being humiliated at every turn by Broli. In the end he finally got what was coming to him but only because he was tired from running so much.

    7. The volleyball game. Never have so many white guys gotten together and talked so much trash that you could have filled the Keele Valley dump 5 times over. Or as someone reminded me “the trash talking was inversely proportional to the skill of the sport being demonstrated.”

    6. The kids. No, not the adults acting like kids but the kids themselves. It was nice to see them having fun and they did their best to entertain the adults. A special shout out to Mathew who’s “oh shit” comment made me spit up my water during the prize giveaway. He said what most of us were feeling but were too afraid to say out loud when our ticket number wasn’t being called.

    5. The mothers/wives/significant others for putting up with the antics of the kids. This time I am referring to the adult males as the kids.

    4. The prize raffle. Thanks to the sponsors the club was able to give away a more than a few items to some lucky members. The feeling was electric as people anticipated with excitement the prizes they could win. That feeling quickly faded as Jeff’s number was called and he managed to snag the one thing that mattered to Bubba’s Mom. A role of double sided packing tape. You’re a cruel man Jeff.

    3. The Cars. The one thing that draws us together and got us there for that matter was our Mazdas. They came in every colour, trim and model version. We had a great representation of the club. We even had a few cars that were not Mazda’s join us. It was nice to walk around and see the latest changes to each others cars. As well as seeing the new faces and newer cars by way of the 2010. As usually the hatches were by far the better looking vehicles at the park.

    2. Bubba’s Mom. After having her packing tape taken away she was out for revenge. And the object of her revenge was mEtH by way of an unexpected soaking. “Hell hath no furry like a women from THE ROCK scorned.”

    1. Bubba and his Family. Yet again Bubba has stepped up and organized a meet worth talking about. As someone mentioned in the feedback thread you could see the fun on everyone’s faces. With the support of his family they set out to make us all welcome. If any of you ever visited Newfoundland or THE ROCK as Bubba likes to point out, this hospitality is a trademark of “Newfies.” Salt of the earth people that will open their homes for a stranger. They are a special breed with a deep connection to their home/province. They can be anywhere in Canada at any given time but they would always want to be back on the rock. There’s a joke that says that once you get to heaven you can spot the Newfies very easily. They’re the ones that are homesick.

A big thanks to Bubba and his family for making us all feel welcome. With every successive BBQ the outcome tops the previous years. Here’s hoping we can all be fortunate to enjoy this event next year.

I think a lot of ppl just use the "new posts" button, so they still see it.

Yours will be in the July issue. Cardinal Fang wrote me his thing regarding the BubbaQ and it fit better in here than in Julys for obvious reasons.

I'll be getting Julys out soon so just wait my dear!
