PORT HOPE – An Ontario driver has learned a hard lesson about respecting authority.

He was pulled over for speeding on Sunday on Highway 401 near Port Hope after being tracked by a police helicopter.

Police say the driver was stopped and ticketed for travelling 35 kilometres over the posted speed limit.

After he received the ticket and began to pull away, the driver raised his hand and flashed an obscene gesture toward provincial police Const. Bettina Schwarze.

She pulled the unidentified man over again and promptly gave him a $110 ticket.

The offence? Making an improper hand signal.

in the states, there was this guy who flipped a cop off as he passed him before and he got in jail.... he sued the cops, went all the way to the supreme court and won because based on freedom of speech

it should've been the same way in commie canada

Take it to court is all i can say its a freedom of speech doesnt matter if you give a law enforcement the finger or a bum you are showing your aggression not violently not verbally just a symbol. Thats rediculous

I think the guy deserved it, just because he was an IDIOT.You don't flip the bird to a cop that just gave you a speeding ticket! You thank him/her nicely and wish them a nice day....This method might just be enough to make them waiver and make a note to miss your court date.

Sorry, I didn't realize speeding was a right. I thought it was a violation of the Highway Traffic Act.

As for the finger thing, if his arm was extended straight out, parallel to the ground then his hand signal was correct for a left turn to merge with traffic. If his arm was bent up at the elbow then he was signaling a right turn which is clearly the incorrect hand signal when turning left to merge with traffic and presents a serious safety problem.

yes, it *maybe* a plausible "hand signal" if he stuck his arm/hand out the window... but we don't know if he did or not because we don't have the true story

either way, his freedom of speech right got violated when he got a ticket for that!

we're so lucky that there is no other crime in our province that our law enforcement have the time and resources to pull over someone for a clearly dangerous () "improper hand signal".
