    Default powering aux input

Hi, I have mazda 3 2006 and I just bought this aux input Scosche FMMOD02 Universal FM MODULATOR

I'm planning on placing it in the ashtray, I got every thing figured out except how to power it.

the FM modulator require a 12v connection (one red wire + another for the ground) and I don't know much about wiring, but I looked up the Wiring Diagram

2008 Mazda 3 Car Stereo Wiring Diagram (think it's the same for 2006)

Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange/Black
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Orange/Black with Silver Dots
    Car Radio Ground Wire: Black/Green
    Car Radio Illumination Wire: N/A
    Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Orange

My problem is I don't know where to connect the red wire (12v of the FM mod), at first I though about connecting it to the Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Orange/Black with Silver Dots

But I've been told this only provides power when the lights are on

Can I tap into the lighter power by splitting it? will it have enough power to power both?

Any suggestions? please give details since I'm a noobie.

    Thanks

I don't know anything about FM transmitters or how much juice they require, but if it says it'll run off a 12v source, then the lighter unit would be an option to jump-wire (tap) cause its right there in the center console, probably close to where your going to mount the aux module right ? It will only work with the key turned in the ignition.

Or just tap the "Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange/Black" like you mentioned.

ok, will I still be able to use the lighter power at the same time I use the aux input? I don't smoke but I sometime use it to recharge my cell phone or power my gps?

one more thing my aux input as to wires one black ground and one red 12v

while the lighter as one orange and one black, can I just tap the red with orange and leave the lighter black alone and fix the aux ground to a screw?

Yes, that will power it and give it a separate ground, which is good. Also, I'm pretty sure you can still use the lighter outlet.

Thanks for the info , I realized that I could squeeze the red wire from the fm modulator in the factory plug that fit in the radio allowing it to come in contact with the power wire orange so I didn't even have to cut the wire works great

Think I spoke to fast... just realised I'm getting some "hissing" but only when using the FM modulator, I mean the modulator can be powered on and if I'm listening to another channel there is no hissing. I only hear the hissing when I'm on the modulator's channel

could the poor power connection of the modulator cause this?

or do simply thing it's one rca connection of the aux input that's too close some metal part?

my bad... I forgot they didn't add the aux in jack till 2007...

isn't it easier/cheaper to do this instead?
    http://carstereoipod.blogspot.com/

while the pin outs on that old mazda radio is different than the mazda3 radio, the idea is the same as far as wiring it up goes... don't follow that page for doing the wiring, but use it for ideas on how you can find a connector that fits

here is the wiring diagram for the aux in jack on the 07-09 mazda3s:

the white/black and brown/green wires are spliced into the harness shielding... I believe they must be jumpered together so that a "device presence" is detected from the radio to enable you to press the "CD" (or "MEDIA") button to switch between the aux in jack and CD player... the rest of the wire colours are self explanatory... the connector diagram is looked upon as the harness connector facing towards you, not the radio reconnector facing towards you

finally, an alternative you can try is to find a wrecked 2007 or newer mazda3 and grab the console box and the wiring... it will plug right up to your car... the cigarette lighter might need some splicing for it to work, but the aux in will go right into your radio

and if you don't want to mess with this, why not get the auxmod adapter? there's so many options for mazdas that getting an FM modulator is just stupid
