You want to post your car up for trade? Good luck with that.

Alright, would someone please explain to me why so many people think I won't be able to do this. If I have a car with an auto and a dealer has the same car in the same condition with a manual, why wouldn't they want to trade? They would be getting a car worth more money, because it has an auto transmission, that they can sell for more money. They make a profit, and I get the car I want. What am I missing here? Please do educate me.
The resale on an auto vs standard is minimal on a used car, not enough to "make money on". Especially considering yours is an 04, there might be $200 resale diff. A dealer would never give you more, as that would take from their profit... they aren't in the business to do you favours, they are there to make a living making money. You'd be better hoping someone like me (though I no longer have one) would consider an EVEN trade due to my commute in heavy traffic I have now. Auto is a better choice for me at this point, though I am Jonesing for manual big time!!
GL, it will be harder than you think OP

A dealer will not trade as it would cost them money to do the transaction. They would have to pay for the paperwork, as well as detailing/cleaning/safetying etc of your car. On top of that, they are a business, and won't do anything unless they make money. As already stated, the price in a used car (especially one such as the Mazda3) on an auto vs standard is basically negligible.
Np. Good luck figuring out this whole thing. I have to say I love my manual 3.
I totally feel you, being a broke @$$ student. I worked full time over the summer in a factory so I could buy my car, and now work part time, plus my OSAP and loans to pay for insurance.
