Is the New 2012 Ford Focus based on the 2010 mazda 3?

The RS version with 300 'Horsepowers' as Jeremy Clarkson would say. They just tested it on Top Gear this week. Wicked torque steer......but 300 HP who cares....

Same, at least in terms of liking it better than the current Focus. Where the current Mazda 3 looks 'happy', this one looks mean and aggressive.

Also would consider buying one, the styling is definitely much improved. All that is left to be decided is the performance and handling as well as the fuel economy.

What is the name of the platform?

C1 is our car and the current Euro Focus. The old Focus was C170, but what is the platform for the new Focus and MkII Mazda3?

I've seen reference to the new 3 being Fords CD3 platform but I doubt that is right because that's the Fusion and Mazda6 platform? I've also seen it being said to be the same C1 platform as the first gen 3s.

The new Fiesta and Focus are global cars...and do look very good in my opinion. Except for local requirements the cars are intended to be identical around with world with the biggest differences being the powerplants.

the other way around... the mazda 3 and the volvo s40 are based on the ford focus, we just haven't had the same gen focus in NA for a number of years.

in 2011 the focus will be a WW standard platform. and yes fingers crossed that the RS makes it over

MkI Mazda3 = C1
MkII Mazda3 = C1

MkI Focus C170
MkII Focus = C1 (Europe not NA)
MkIII Focus = C1

New Focus looks nice but I still think the 2010 Mazda3 is nicer. I don't like the Focus hatch taillights - very weird. The interior is amazing though.

This new focus looks great, I would have definitely considered it if it had been around when I needed to buy. It's nice to see a real quality Focus again after that v1.5 crapmobile they were selling recently. It looks a lot like the 2010 Mazda 3 but that's not exactly surprising.
