    Default Rear Caliper tool DIY

So I went to Canadian Tire and bought that fancy cube that is supposed to fit the piston of all domestics and 'some imports' and I figured since Mazda was in bed with Ford it would work.

    WROOOONG

While the pliers worked they just spun the piston and didn't compress it as I need downward force as well. After some frustration and sore hands I made this.

    Looks silly, worked a charm.

That's cause you're not wearing work gloves. Hehe.

Nice tool though, I don't recall having any issues retracting my rear calipers.

Canadian tire has a tool rental program, including one for the calipers. They had the correct size for the mazda 3. Judt have to put down a deposit (I believe it was around $90) and when you return it, they refund it in full.

Ya, I went in with intentions of renting the tool but after I bought the universal cube I figured all would be well.

    get this:

    currently $22 on ebay

it works on the rear without any adapters, and the fronts you just use one of the flat adapters. it's the same tool CT has for $99

didn't see the shipping, quite outrageous. for those that drive down to Buffalo to cross-border shop, Harbor Freight has it for $24.99

go to any jobber, look for the sk brand version, its cheappppp, or otc version.....they are readily available...even tool trucks have cheaper brands that they carry

a c-clamp works great too...***** lol

I thought I wouldn't have to do it for awhile but my drivers side caliper seems to be sticking... not sure if it's the normal brakes or the e brake (which has stuck before) probably have to tear it apart again and see.

The front I used a standard c clamp.
