    Default stock HID's on MS3

    Hi everyone,

I just got mine about a month ago, and yeah I do love it.

However.....I really think the HID's are crap crap crap. I mean, they kinda look like the regular projectors on my Mazda 3. Is this just me?

I'm definitely looking to get an aftermarket set, but I also want to know if anyone else notices this....should I bring it back to dealership and complain?????

    Thanks in advance,
    Bernard

Yeah, It does look yellow-ish.. but the light it emits is very bright and very HID
It's just the projector lens that has yellow area on the cut-off line as opposed to blue-purple line you see on projectors on bimmers, nissan, acura, etc.

I have no problem at all with mine. I think they're perfect for HID's.

My old acura had 4300K HID without projectors.
They looked white, and I liked it better than blueish ones..
They did turn pink once they got old though..

Stock HID will give you the most distance light. I changed them to 9k bulbs and cant see much when out of the city...

I agree. I was driving down one of the country side roads in Caledon last night, the aim was kind of low..
Didn't illuminate as far as I would like it to.
Although I used highbeam to solve the problem

For city drive and most of the highways, I think they are very very good

I agree that the MS3 HID low beams are too low even at the highest setting. May adjust them manually under the hood with a good ole screw driver as I did with my former Mini Cooper S which also was set too low.

I think stock HID's are great, no complain at all. Afterall, lighting are for safety more than just appearance, and the stock one does it very well in that department.

All H.I.D's have a strict cutoff hence no light being thrown up-wards to illuminate signs etc... This means reduced glare for oncoming drivers, in Europe most sign are auto lit so no need to throw light up wards! On our 400 series and most highway they are lit enough to see but if you are 65plus you might have an issue. Also when you lower your car the lights will not travel further as they will be at that height, start messing with aim and your pointing up-wards in peoples review!! Properly aimed H.I.D's should not clear the trunk area of vehicle in front! I have 2010 no issue with lights 4300k is a pure white so you can still see big difference in colour compared to fog lights switch to high with Bi-Xenon is awesome! I also have 2 other vehicles with 6000k H.I.Ds and the light in one with Hella projector is whitish with Blue/purple tinge and other is an FK headlamp projector which gives off whitish with blue tinge to it! distance is not as great as if I had 4300k bulbs but I have no problem on airport road at night with no need to switch up to high-beam!
P.S for all you gen 1 with single beam H.I.D try swapping out high beam bulb with silverstar bulb you will see better and futher than stock bulb, did this on my fathers 2008 Sport and the bulb matches the xenon in colour 100%! Now he can see road sign when he flicks up to high beam.

This is the first car Ive ever owned with HID lights. So far I really enjoy them and have no plans to re-aim or replace them. I drive on dark country roads are they're great!

if you really hate the color, I would recommend just changing it to 6000K bulbs

but ya stock ones are usually the best for light

how ever. stock colors are never the best

I have the 6000K bulbs....gives a very cool blue colour....anything over that than is stupid...I had 8000k on my old car and I sold the HID kit after a while....it's too blue and such an attention whore.

Typically most people do. It only takes about 10-15 min to do so and is easy to put back on. Just take your time and had someone help you (an extra set of hands is always good).

I just changed my d2s hid bulbs to Philips 6000k, Much better IMO, Not overkill but still has a really nice color output over stock.

I'm surprised people say they're aimed too low....I find my low beams are absolutely perfect and shine VERY far. In fact the high beams I find are almost too high as they don't actually put any light on the road ahead of me.
