No experience with Seiko's solar technology but if it is similar to Casio's, make sure the watch is stored in a well lit location where the battery can recharge, especially if you do not wear the watch for an extended time period. Otherwise the battery will drain and you have a paperweight. Mind you, if you know when it will be worn again, just allow the watch to recharge prior to the date ( with time and date adjustment obviously).
With automatics, just shake a couple of times, adjust the time and date and you're good to go.
