    Default 5W-40 synthetic oil

I can't seem to find it anywhere. I was hoping to find Pennzoil Platinum in 5W-40 but I am open to any other brand.

Part Source at Danforth and Danforth on the 31st had a ton of 5w40 in Castrol Syntec and Mobil 1. I wonder if anyone has tried 5w50 yet. I'm temped to.

Any CarQuest store should have Lubrimoly or Carquest 5W40 synthetic in stock.

You need to look at the API rating on 5W40 oils. Many are formulated for diesel engines and carry an SL rating for gasoline engines. I am not 100% certain about earlier years but cars 2007 and newer should call for an SM rated oil. This is probably only relevant for warranty purposes but worth considering.

FWIW, I believe Shell Rotella T 5W40 synthetic is SM rated and so is Petro Canada Duron E 0W40 synthetic. Both are available from bulk distributors and usually at a much better price than you'd pay at CTC, Wal-Mart etc.
