    Default Fuel Injector Flush

At Mazda today getting the spark plugs changed on my 2006 Mazda3 and they suggested I get a fuel injector flush to help with the performance of the car. Anyone else have this service done and did you notice a significant difference in the performance of your vehicle? Or is it just another cash grab.

Just had my FI flush done, I'm at 54,000km right now. Gas mileage is noticeably better not to sure about performance improvements.

Cash grab and a benefit. I say this as I've seen service advisors recommend this service on people with almost new cars and very low mileage which is ridiculous. How much of a cash grab vs. benefit, is really going to depend on your mileage. So, what is your cars mileage?

Well my car is at 180K, so I'm trying to figure out a list of things to do to hopefully prolong the life and increase the efficiency of my engine.

Well, at that mileage, it isn't going to hurt and you'll probably see some benefit in gas mileage and if it gives you peace of mind too, then go for it. This said, if you car is running well, it probably isn't needed. My old 2000 Protege had around 260K on it and ran like a champ. I never did this service, nor saw much need for it.

Wouldn't a fuel injector cleaner do basically the same thing? I'm referring to those additive types that you dump in your gas tank. Maybe not quite as effective, but better bang for the buck, isn't it??

Technically, it's also a 'FACT' that it made a difference to your wallet unless you happened to steal it...

I have used Red Line Fuel Cleaner after reading good things about it. I noticed a slightly better fuel economy improvement after a few tank treatments. That reminds me that I need another bottle.

Then validate your comments with actual details and observations instead of one line post whoring. Just because your car is at 270K and running strong doesn't mean anything. My 10 year old Protege had around the same mileage and I never used any snake oil products to keep it running like a champ. Just regular maintenance.

Here are some facts for you:
-Modern Gasolines and oils already have significant additive packages.
-The gas you put in the car already has additives for keeping the injectors clean.
-Oils have additives for reducing sludge and carbon build-up in your engine.
-After-market fuel additives are not recommended by any car manufacturer. Read your car manual if you don't believe me. Read any car manual for that matter.
-You will get more benefit on fuel economy and engine response by cleaning your throttle body than you will by pouring crap into your gas.
-You are wasting your money needlessly.

By all means keep using whatever product makes you feel good.
