And there's your problem right there. The way the 8.5s use the highbeams for DRL is by running the bulbs at half-voltage. This is done by connecting the bulbs in series when in DRL-mode... which, in addition to halving the voltage for both bulbs, reverses the voltage on one of them. Neither of which will work, at least not with after-market HIDs.
Pull the HIDs from the high-beams and put the halogens back in. If you want more light use something like the 9011 HIR bulbs.
