    Question Re-wrap shift knob

I'm considering re-wrapping my shift knob as I can't find one that I really like...I like a ergonomic leather knob with no exposed stitching...so far, i've found this:

How do you disassemble the shift knob

    UPDATE:

So on a Mazdaspeed3 knob, you pry off the shift gate pattern circle. It's plastic. Underneath that is a screw. Remove the screw and you can pry off the top finishing piece off the shift knob.

The leather, however, is glued pretty securely in place.
I don't know if it's worth or something I can DIY...I also need to source soem alcantara...what do you guys think?

I'd stay away from Alcantara (at least, the less-expensive versions). I used some on a previous steering wheel, and it started to get discoloured and worn down fairly quickly. Stick with leather or fake leather.

I found this place that has good reviews...one guy did Alcantara inserts in his G35...

    Tack Auto Marine Upholstery

I'd use automotive/OEM quality Alcantara if I go that route...still weighing options. Might get a matching shift boot done too...

Yeah, I'm still wary of OEM Alcantara on high-wear contact surfaces. I'd hate to spend the money on it and have it wear out in a year.

This looks interesting. The only part that worries me is the top cap going back on securely. I like the look though. But wear and tear on the alcantara does concern me.

Actually, this brings up a new idea. Would that Porsche 911 knob fit on a Mazda3? I've raced 911s and I find that they do have the most ergonomic and comfortable knobs.

not a bad idea...but I can't seem to find the pitch/thread for the Porsche shifters...it seems uber poser tho, but at least they're not logo'd and have a matching shift pattern to mine!
