Default Idle or turn of car while waiting

Just wondering if people think it's better to turn off the car while waiting in line for a car wash or to just idle. Sometimes the wait is up to 30min and should I just idle for that 30min or turn the car on and off around 5 - 8 times?

Idling is not good for the engine, how about repeated on and off?

I'd rather idle for 30min than turn the car on and off 5 - 8 times for 30 mins.

Find a different car wash. One where you actually wash the car yourself (e.g. hose, bucket, sponge). As an added bonus you might get wet, which is a much more stimulating experience than sitting on your a$$ watching a machine. You'l also be engaged in some physical exercise, which is good for the cardio-vascular system and the mind, as you'll become one with your car. Hence, if you do it yourself, you'll live longer, so will the car.

It also saves energy, and saves the planet. We only have one to date that I know of.

P.S. Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas and oil, as well as current market conditions, 'The Light at the End of the Tunnel' has been turned off.

If the wait at your car wash is 30 min, you should find another car wash, or go to a coin op. What we need is Mazda's iStop, then you never need worry about idle emissions and gas consumption.

The one by my house had a downward slope towards wash. So I just stick in neutral, turn it off and use my hand brake as appropriate.

I personally would not use a car wash but in the winter time its either that or a coin wash place. I see your point but in the spring/summer, I would not use a car wash.
    And I exercise 4 - 5 times a week...the hell man I ain't outta shape!

If you can tell there's at least 30 minute of waiting time, then i'd definitely come back in few hours or next day.
