It might work for the first few days. After that, the birds just get accustomed to it and realize it is inanimate. I have one of these perched and hanging over my boat in a covered slip. In theory, it is to prevent Swallows from making their mud nests in the rafters over the boat. Completely ineffectual. It doesn't even scare other birds. They've actually sat right on its head at times.

Ever since Auguest of last year we have had a Coopers hawk chill at my house. He perches either on the fence in the backyard or on the light pole in front of the house. Needless to say the black birds that were nesting in the blue spruces along my drive way were kicked out. The Hawk was eating the babies. The hawk was back just yesterday mowing down a sparrow, in my backyard.

Yup... It was pretty funny actually. Sitting at the back of the boat while in the slip and having a drink and listening to tunes. My wife is reading a magazine and casually looks up, smiles slightly and in her very British, understated and nonchalant way, says, "Your Owl, I really don't think it is working...". She then goes back to reading.

I burst out laughing when I saw the Swallow sitting on its head.

I now use a Slingshot and ball-bearings. Much more effective.

If they're dumb birds, I think the Owls will work... But not for crows. Crows are bloody smart.
I know they arn't crows because of the sound they make. Its just endless chirping at 5:30AM in the morning. I might try the owl

My relatives did discuss about trimming three branch's so they won't have a spot to land and essentialy make the tree a stick though I don't know if that would help. Anyone know of any contracters who can do that?
