this is a precaution against "gluing" oem side skirts
i am bumping this thread to address some of the original concerns put forth by other members (most recently, dynames) with regards to "gluing" vs. "drilling" oem side skirts. after 2 years or so, i am of the opinion from personal experience, and that of other members, that it is best to have the oem side skirts attached by drilling them. i believe that although richard at friendly auto body's (7605 Woodbine Ave, Markham) recommendation of "gluing" is well intentioned, stemming from the fear of rust in the corrosion prone mazda3 paint, it is erroneous and subsequently does not hold up over time.
i have had to make 3 separate trips over the last year or so to friendly auto body from mississauga to have the passenger (right side) skirt reattached. the most recent adhesive (see picture below) seems to have resolved issues, but nonetheless it is a waste of time and money to continuously have it addressed. furthermore, richards attitude in each visit has progressively been less and less courteous, deteriorating to the point where it seems that i am inconveniencing him (and it is only him that can deal with the matter, as laoban - owner - will refuse warranty service).
i can understand mistakes and bad advice, but lack of good will, let alone compensation (whether it be a simple apology or even monetary) is something i cannot understand in my frustration (compounded by my numerous visits).
i cannot speak to the quality of friendly auto body's body repair and paint services (from reviews here it seems noteworthy), but in regards to installing side skirts and to an extent other aftermarket/oem accessories, i cannot recommend richard or friendly auto body given my experiences.
adhesive used from most recent trip in June 2012
the 3rd time the skirt came apart in may 2012, fixed in june 2012
the second time the side skirt came apart in march 2012, pink adhesive used - see may 2012

it looks very similar to the oems i have. It doesn't just clip in?
Just a quick note: That particular Dominion Sure Seal product is for repair, not an adhesive.

oh god that's disgusting
please drill holes and attach the side skirts the way they're meant to FFS!
the GTs come with side skirts, they're drilled from the factory... rust issues? The car starts rusting elsewhere first!

thats some pretty scary stuff. my side skirts are detached a little due to the car constantly being on hoists and jacks, but its not bad cause I drilled right through the frame. was thinking about gluing, but not anymore. just gonna replace the 3m again. but thanks for the heads up zuhair.

can anyone give me the instructions for the installation of the side skirts for 2010+?? thx
if they are oem they should come with all kinds of paper templates you have to cut out and tape to the skirt then the car a certain way. After all have been taped the the car, drill where the X is. Use some rocker guard and spray the holes to prevent rust and pop in the skirts

like I said before, anyone who buy a brand new kit, I suggest making a copy/scanning of the template before you actually cut it up for drilling because they're very fragile and one tear will make your life miserable!
Do the oem reps even have the correct mounting surfaces on the back?
OEM reps only use 3M and some brackets on the bottom of the skirt. You technically don't need to drill into the car, but if that 3M tape gives out, you're SOL.
Thread revive! Anyone know if I'll have any problems installing nextmod side skirts with my rally armors on?
Here is an actual install of OEM sideskirts for anyone interested.

2010 Mazda3 GT Sport..
Hello,
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I got side skirts from Rick at Garage16 for my 2013 Mazda 3 GS. Do we have to remove those small mud flaps in front of the tires in order to install/mount the side skirts?
Thanks so much! Any help is appreciated
Yes. Those small mud flaps are held in place by 2 push pins. A flathead screwdriver pops the head up and the plug then can be pulled out.
Sorry reviving this, but anyone know what type of screws to use to install OEM side skirts on 2010 Mazda3 hatch?
Got some new tires put on and when inspecting/admiring the new rims/tires, I noticed both side skirts are missing the screws at the front wheels. I have NO idea when they fell out and I have NO idea how they are still in place lol.
Thx in advance
