    Default HELP!!!!!! SPARK PLUG

guys, i ordered spark plugs from garage16....
i got around to installing them today on my car and only on the last plug i noticed they are not the same. the new ones i bought ( NGK IRIDIUM ) are about 1/4" shorter then the original plugs i got with the car. The code on the box says TR6IX 3689. I went on the site and it says the correct plug from NGK for my 2006 Mazda 3 Hatch (2.3l) is ILTR5A-13G 3811.....

Now i put the last one back in bc i don't know a lick about this stuff. the car turns on and seems to be running fine. my question is the following. is this bad that i might have the wrong plug in the car? wouldn't a shorter plug make more distance between the pistons therefore requiring a bigger spark, leading to less lifetime of the plug and perhaps making the car work more etc....

someone please respond who knows about these things or if its ever happened to them because i don't want to be driving the car like this. i might just put the old ones back in

    thanks
    Dadinho

one more thing...it looks like the plug they sent me is listed on the ngk site as being for the 2004 2.3l mazda 3....i know the engine is the same and stuff...but there must be a difference bc this one is shorter.

A quick search of the part # you gave came up with a ton of different motors they'll work with including marine.

There is a part # on the plugs themselves Check that one out. See if it matches your car.

Where is the plug shorter. The threaded side or the other

it is shorter on the threaded side, meaning its not going in as deep as the one from the factory. the part numbers from factory were ILTR5A-13G while the ones i got were TR6IX.... you think is should be ok?

The gap seems the same but I would still check the # on the plugs. Maybe just wrong box. If it's not right I would talk to Rick he should replace them for you.

this will answer all the questions you have:
    http://www.protegefaq.net/tsb/mt000004848.html

in short, you do NOT want to use those shorter plugs in your car... you need to get the right ones
I don't know whether you'll get refund or credit now that they've been used

good thing nothing bad really happened... let this be a lesson that whenever you're replacing stuff in your car to look at the new part and check if it's the same and will fit
    don't feel bad, it's a beginner's mistake

No. That doesn't matter. The whole chamber of the cylinder would have air/fuel. However, the shorter plugs have a different heat range. Too hot could lead to premature ignition for instance.

    I don't think you understand
the 04-05 plugs are more than half an inch shorter than the 06+ plugs!
heat range has NOTHING to do with this

The 06 Mazdas use different spark plugs than the 04-05 AFAIK. I remember when I replaced mine not to long ago, I ended up buying the wrongs ones as well. So make sure you get the right ones. Should be the ones that Rick suggested in his post.

Edit: Yup, same as Rick suggested. I have these in my 06 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RLU0IS

Ya the plugs are different, don't install the wrong plugs. Rick@garage16 posted above to resolve your issue, so I would go that route. Hopefully you just got some cheapy plugs in the mean time.

to say the least, i am very disappointed with the way Rick handles his business. its been over 1 week now and i have yet to hear from him about returning my plugs. i ordered this and other parts from him in the past and even took a buddy of mine to buy products from him. he sent me the wrong plugs that could have potentially affected my car and he has yet to resolve this matter. i guess this is how he treat his clients

    oh well
