Default Dealer trying to screw with me?

Nearly closed a deal on what was supposedly the last 2011 CWP Speed w/tech in Western Canada. The only hitch, it was located in Vancouver and the dealer wanted an additional $600 to ship it to me in Edmonton. I thought freight was already rolled into the price of the vehicle? I didnt see why I should pay twice for shipping and backed out; or am I missing something

Freight is included, but is this already a "Delivered" vehicle?
If this is a dealer trade to get you the vehicle you want, then the vehicle will have to be shipped.
Why not go on a road trip?

Dealer trade usually happens with other dealers that are in close proximity. I find it hard to believe that no dealer in the Edmonton area has the vehicle OP wanted.

Vancouver is the port of entry and once in the country, they will be shipped via rail to their respective destinations. It could be that said car was already ordered by another dealership for inventory and is sitting in the lot at vancouver awaiting transport. Your dealer may then have to deal with that dealer to do a trade

    Either way, find another dealer.

Either find another dealer, or if everything else with that dealer has been fine - then I'd say take Shawn's advice and make a road trip of it.

$600 should cover your expenses to get there, gas, food, drinks snacks, etc. and would be a heck of a lot more satisfying than simply having your car show up on a railcar. You'd want to get a clearbra or something similar before you leave Vancouver though. Might also need to take an interesting route so that you don't hold the RPMs too steady during the break-in period.

I wouldn't pay the $600. You've all ready paid it when you buy the car *freight*

I would deal with a different dealer

The freight that is charged originally is to freight the car to the dealer who ordered it originally. If a dealer has to ship in a vehicle from another dealer that isn't close by ( Edmonton to Vancouver isn't close by), then charging additional freight charge ( maybe not as expensive as $600) is well within what they can do, because it will cost the dealer money to ship it in from an out of town dealer. Just my 2 cents

    I still wouldn't pay it.

from Vancouver to Edmonton - ~ 1200km.. Gas should be around no more than $200, and the labour for the driver.. assuming he can make it in 10 hours (25/hr * 10) = ~250 (assume $300). Just to get going, its around $500. Dealer probably wants to make a profit too, $100... could be less..

Anyhow.. I mean the $600 IS possible, but I am assuming the truck driver is only delivering one car.. which is not common..

$600 is high, but with gas prices and labour costs.. it can get there..

The decision is yours, but is $600 on top of price worth it for you? If its the car you want, you'll have to think about that.

Freight covers the cost of Mazda delivering it to the dealership that ordered it.. If they don't sell it, and another dealer wants it (because you bought it) then expect to pony up the shipping costs.

As far as making a road trip out of it.. that isn't going to happen..

    A) if you are thinking you can go and get it there on behalf of your dealer, and drive it back.. no dealer is going to risk you with their dealer plate for 1200km through a couple of provinces..

    B) if you are planning to go there and buy it there... and drive it back, you will need insurance there as well as a BC driver's license to register it.. and this is only if you are planning to pay cash for it as you cannot finance it if your registration and residence address don't match..

    long story short...

either pay the $600 and don't look back.. or wait for a 2012.

When I got my Mazda they had a hard time finding what I wanted in Ontario. They brought it from another dealer about 8 hours away I think. I had to wait an extra 4 or 5 days more than usual to pickup but definitely didn't pay extra. Maybe cause its a different province but that should def be negotiable, especially on a speed 3.

+1 because he works for a dealer and knows about all this stuff. If it is the only CWP Speed 3 in Canada and you want it buy it. What's an extra $600 for a car your already spending 30k on.

Or like he said what for the 2012 and pay more because we all now they don't get 0% or cash rebates right off the bat...if you think they will you are just fooling yourself.

Keep your $600.00 bucks, choose another color, stay and buy close to home just remember how hard you have to work for $600.00 bucks. Unless money is no object.

x2 on what Jeff said. If you can afford a "supposedly last 2011 CWP Speed w/tech in Western Canada." then suck it up buttercup, you're payin' a premium on this 'special' car.

You just said Lexus doesn't allow it, why would another car brand allow it? Because they aren't a premium brand..everythign works the same regardless of what car brand you buy

Really? My dealer shipped my car from Vancouver to Montreal for no cost to me. It was an X Plan (or whatever) purchase with a preset price, so I know the cost wasn't added in. All I had to do was wait.
