2012 CX-5 is the first car to receive the skyactiv diesel then followed by hopefully the 2013 mazda 3 skyactiv diesel, updated frame and skyactiv tranny..

The cx 5 is getting the diesel so there is a pretty good chance the Mazda 3 will also it just depends on when. I have read the Mazda 6 is next for the diesel then the 3. Mazdas prez has said they are committed to bringing a diesel compact to the north American market it's just a matter of when...

Mazda has only promised to bring over one model in a diesel and while they haven't officially announced which one everyone expects it will be the CX-5. If they sell enough of that then we might have a chance at a diesel 3. But I'm not sure I would buy one over the Speed 3 because the price would be similar.

All true, cx-5 is most likely getting the diesel but not yet confirmed..

Don't hold your breath onto this. When Honda tried to bring their famous iCDTi diesel engine into Canadian soil, they changed their mind at the very last minute saying the US still thinks that diesel cars equals to slow and smoky...

As mentioned, it'll be the CX5 most likely, i doubt more then 1 model will be getting it anytime soon in Canada. It'll be a one model intro and then see what the numbers say, then reevaluate and introduce another or scrap...

It'd be great to see a Diesel option for the 3 though!

Diesel will sell well in Quebec. I've always noticed a lot more VW TDI being sold in Quebec when compared to Ontario.

it will come... in the 3? probably not until 2014
they engineered this motor SPECIFICALLY to be EPA Tier 2 Bin 5 complaint, which means in layman terms, it is US emissions legal out of the box, without costly piss injection systems, filters, and other mumbojumbo
the reason why the other famous japanese diesel engines haven't made it here is because it's very costly to make them US emissions compliant, and seeing as there's a great uncertainty of market acceptance, it's too risky a proposition to do this

the skyactiv diesel OTOH is already so clean they don't have to do anything to sell it here for the most part... they just bolt it in and ship it... a much more manageable risk

I would have assumed for the CX-5 diesel; I wouldn't have expected the MZ3 diesel to actually make it to market here.

If it does eventually make its way here though (as TheMan suggests) that's great news.

Hmmm been reading a lot but can't seem to find if they will produce two version of the speed3, one in diesel and one on regular fuel. Can anyone with source/link confirm that they are only producing it in the Diesel ? Interested.......
