    Default Eyelid installation

Hey all! Just purchased and received a set of sedan headlight eyelids.

I seem to have problems with installation. The side part and the middle fit fine, but no matter how many times I tried to move it around and try new spots, the part closest to the grill never fits properly because it has too little contact area with the surface even with the 3m tape caked up as much as possible.

    Any suggestions?

pics? I haven't had any trouble with attaching my eyelids. All I used was 3m tape as well.

Same... I didn't have any issues with my sedan eyelids either...

This is probably a stupid question as I figure you know what you ordered buuuuut... are you sure they're sedan eyelids?
Also, did you clean your headlights before trying to put them on?

+1. Also don't forget to clean the reverse side of the eyelid where you are placing the double-sided tape.

Yeah, cleaned both sides And I'm sure I got the sedan one... Sedan one extends further than hatchback on the side, which is mainly the reason why it pains me so much. Car's out for now, so I'll take the pictures when it comes back

Your passenger side eyelid looks a little off, but the driver's side looks better...
Of course this is only after seeing the pics and not the actual car...

Perhaps just start fresh with the install and try again?

I installed the eyelid on mine not long ago, just make sure you use plenty of double sided 3M tape (I've used "Scotch / 3M Exterior Mounting Tape", 5-6$). I would simply suggest covering the entire back surface of each eyelid.. yes everywhere. If you decide to re-do, pick a warm day (indoor parking would be good)... clean the surface with alcohol. Here's where you can find the good tape (http://www.homedepot.com/buy/paint/a...ape-54211.html). When the lid is on, just make sure you apply enough force so that there's full contact between both surface.

Hm, I did it around 2 days ago, so the weather was warm, but chilly... I guess that made the eyelids become a bit more stiff... And I had tried the lot of 5m exterior tape on the back, but everytime I tried, the piece would be out of position and then after one stick It'd become less useful than the original, so I avoided that at all costs..

Guess this is the only way then huh? Does anyone recommend some kind of other glue or something? I'm worried that the parts that are lifted will have the weather affect it and it loses all of its stick and works its way into the back of the eyelid

Well, just try it out for a bit and see what happens. Tape is pretty inexpensive, so if you need to redo anything it shouldn't take too much work.

Lmao, I know what you mean. But it's so frustrating cause you want it to be perfect, and when you position it without tape it works fine, but then you do it with tape and you get it offset by a tiny bit and then disaster Hahaha

On my speed i have nearly the exact same problem, but I have a different style of eyelids. Mine are off at the opposite side though, and its caused more by interference with the fender (you can kind of tell in my signature). I think the only fix is to cut/sand and repaint. I just left mine off a bit because right now I don't have the facilities to repaint them.

I think I have heard of several people having problems with their fitments.

Heat the eyelids with a hair dryer to give the plastic a bit more 'give', then re-attempt installation with fresh tape?

I bought some eyelids from ebay and I am having an extremely difficult time installing them. It doesn't stay on, it is almost like it doesn't fit properly, I even tried double side taping the whole back side of the eyelid and it doesn't want to stay.

These are the eyelids I bought
