Question Wants to go low!! Any advice??

hi newbie here again to ask for your helpful suggestions.

I have a '11 Mz3 sport GT and want to lower it.
Currently running my stock 17" w/ all season.
I might get some 18" in the near future. I also have RA mudflaps and side sills.

What kit is recommended for a good price (cheapest...lol)??

Potential problems in the future? Warranty problems?

    Tnx in advance!

If you plan on keeping your stock shocks on your car, the cheapest way of lowering your car is by simply getting lowering springs...I believe one of the sponsors is having a deal on Eibach ProKits, so I would definitely search for that thread and see what's good.

As for future problems, you may need to change your shocks to sport shocks in the future, but seeing as your car is relatively brand new, I don't see you having to worry about that for a while...

    Hope this helps!

persoanlly, I should have got coils to begin in the first place, cost is similar to changing springs and then worn out shocks.

That's the route I'm going in the Spring. I just made that recommendation for the sake of keeping costs down

true, but in the long run, its still gonna cost around the same. I just orderd BC Coils from nextmod, so if astig wants, he can have my used pro-kit springs for like 100 bucks.

I wouldn't recommend going straight to coils if you've never driven a lowered car before.

Instead of pouring over a grand into the coilovers, just get new springs and see if you like driving lower (definitely isn't for everyone lol, people who have driven my car absolutely HATE it)

If you're fairly certain you'll like driving low, then by all means grab some coils and SLAM IT

I went straight to coils. Had never even been in a lowered vehicle. In fact I drive a truck most of the time and my last car was a 86 olds.

Now my gf hates it. I LOVE being that low. ( except on had work days then I have trouble getting out of my car)

I do agree with whats been said. If you can get a used set of springs grab them try it out. If you like it go coils or Konis ( I'd do coils any day and i have cheap ones). If not back to stock and your not out to much.

    Tnx for the infos..

    I guess more questions!!

    1. If I go for lowering springs alone, how do they affect my stock shocks?? i mean their all around performance and reliability.
    2. If i go for used one, what is the life expectancy of those?? Is it safe?? I am no racer -maybe some aggressive driving here and there, you can't blame me .
    3. If i'm lowered, how will it affect my driving?? especially winter driving with snow and etc.

    Thank you!

    1. you're shocks will wear a lot faster, but personally I went over 30k on springs and stock shocks, no issues.
    2. you'll be fine with used, as long as they are in relatively good condition, you don't need to worry.
    3. it will affect you're driving ALOT depending on how low you go.
a pro-kit drop will get you scraping over REALLY big bumps, sportlines... scraping over speedbumps, and coilovers at their lowest setting, well... look out for pebbles on the roads

I suggest don't lower for winter, just wait until spring

Ya don't lower for winter. Thats why I got coils. I'm at stock height now.

I was only half way down and there was some speed bumps I couldn't make it over. Some driveways I couldn't get out of. I even popped my bumper cover off a little.

i went with the 04-09 pro kits in my 2010, gave it a nice drop. but again depends how low you want to go. so far i have had no problems to date with the shocks, only time will tell on that i suppose.

I went with 2010+ eibach prokits. About 1.1" drop. The oem shocks will last about a couple of years then you'll need replacements or better yet Koni Yellows.

if you go prokits, you probably wont have to replace shocks/struts for a few years. but when the time comes, it will cost you the same amount as putting springs on, so if you have the money now, i would be get both springs and shocks because the cost is the same.

also buy springs used and take advantage of depreciation. just make sure its in good shape and isn't damaged.

Trust me, you will REALLY regret it. My car is about as low as you can go and with a body kit.The dealer cringes every time I show up, in fact I fabricated ramps to simply get the car high enough to put on the hoist. I cannot drive my car all winter and I've had to buy a winter car. In the summer its amazing, most of the time though its a pain in the ass. No, to speedbumps, no to most drives and even steep parkade ramps. At most, I'd recommend a simple set of lowering springs.

just to clarify, ZZZ3 is saying the cost to install the springs and shocks together at the same time is the same as the cost to do it individually, so if you buy seperate and install separate, you pay for install twice.

which isn't a huge deal if you don't have the funds available, but if you do, might as well save on the install.

Then why are you so low if you don't like driving that way?...
I'm low like that as well (1.8" clearance on the front end) and I don't regret it at all. It's a choice you have to make, and not everyone will like driving like that.

to the OP, maybe ask someone if you can drive their lowered car around for a bit and see if you like it? I'm sure someone on here will let you I'd offer mine if it wasn't in BC with me lol

    Tnx again guys.

Since i'm short with cash and with winter in (snow soon), i'll postpone lowering the car for now. (maybe next summer).
But definitely learn quite a bit to do this mod. It's nice hear other people's personal opinion with a desire to help a complete stranger!

P.S. now my attention shifts to SRIs.. ( no clue at all)!

    thanks again!
