"It is amazing how many drivers, even at the Formula One Level, think that the brakes are for slowing the car down." -- Mario Andretti
+1 about the valve cleaning and I'm willing to help out with the installs as well. Can't go wrong with the skills I'll learn.
Dave, I can help you out with that. I did it in my old sedan all by me onesies. Would be better if there's 2 people though. So the other can do the vacuum lines and the other keeps on the throttle.

Where might these installs take place? Have a few things that I might need help on from the pro's
down for valve cleaning
ok if terapro wants to take a shot at making the shifter bushings, then maybe Ice_manF1 won't mind showing him his bushings to sample.
midz97 isn't on the forum too much it seems, but I can send him a msg or txt to see if he's interested in doing some fabricating.
obviously we'd pitch in for any costs.
Just to clarify , I want to clean my BPV, other valves should be fine.
2010 Black Mazdaspeed 3 - Lightly modded
^^^This. Alooottt of stuff has to come off. While you're at it, you might want to throw on injector seals. Its another 20 mins or so of dismantiling from IM removal.
I'll come hang out for the intake valve cleaning with some Rickards Red beer.
EDIT: Might want to look into swapping in the stud/nut combo for the injectors and the intake manifold spacers as well. Again, it's super convenient since the IM is already off.

I'd be in for a set as well.
0.000212524463 gigawatts
you know you don't drink that...haha
I'm probably going to end up ordering injector seals and stuff anyway, but that's a whole other story. we need to have a chat.
Looks like best bet is to get terapro a sample and see if he can make the bushings. I'm also interested in the EGR bracket.
no...not with something like mechanical valve cleaning.
and that is something that should addressed. the car runs fine stock. there's no need for anyone to be all hypochrondriac's just cause the cleanliness of the intake valves is one of *MANY* things of concern. CASE IN POINT: you can prolly do more damage doing an improper physical valve cleaning than if you just left it alone, even if it's dirty.
We never thought ppl would actually care enough to post about it, but now that there's clear demand, MSpeed will continue to finalize a suitable solution for chemical valve cleaning.
Also, catch cans are shipping this week...plan for that install as well.
agreed. to be honest this isn't something where you get a group of 10 cars doing this.
it's going to be a huge pain in the ass and require alot of patience.
since you brought it up Fobio, is there a relationship between the compression test and how gunked up the valves are? Seems like most of the ms3's tested so far have pretty decent compression however they're probably gunked up anyway
dudes, just use some washers instead of the billet aluminum spacers. when i got them i was so ****ing pissed that i spent 20 bucks on them
Oh damn, that sucks. Oh well, I stopped reading the Speed section because according to certain people only speed owners are allowed to even look at that section.
In the meantime, I'll have an offline discussion with BlueStreak and Fobio regarding the intake valve cleaning. Last thing we want to do is harm our engine.
A chemical alternative would be great and I know that this is something that Mspeed is looking into.
So looking at the more realistic stuff for now:
1. FMICs
2. Oil Catch Cans
3. BPV cleaning ( I also need to figure out how to service my turbosmart BOV)
4. Shifter Bushings/EGR block off
5. supertones horn (haha)
I will be guinea pig for the valve cleaning, i already bought rifle cleaning tools and have a flexible inspection camera to stick into the ports
as well, alot of these things can be done all at the same time, and alot of them take like 15 min (shifter bushings) and we dont really need to schedule a meat just for them
edit: well yeah, chemicals are used, but physcally removing the carbon deposits has to be done. The solution will not entirely removed it unless its sitting in the ports for like a year,
edit: for the egr blockoff, im wondering if you could just find the dimensions of the two bolt holes, drill out a rectangular piece of aluminum, and use the existing egr gasket to seal it. I think the egr kits come with an actual plug and a plate to go over it, but is that really necessary?
edit: supertones can be done when we do the fmics, as we have to remove the bumpers for those

That's pretty much it. We know they get dirty. Not just from MS3/6, but also from BMW and VW's running direct injection. The best solution is prevention: better oil, consistent oil changes, catch can, meth...and driving the car like it's meant to be driven ie. not granny shifting. It will still likely get gunked up, and affect compression, but it's not life and death unless it's taken to extremes....ie. 30,000KM oil changes, all stop-and-go driving under 3000rpm, shitty dino (non-synthetic) oil, etc.
It's a fine balance of being aware of one of this DI implementation's flaws, while still enjoying it for what it is...a cheap implementation of DI that CAN deliver if you take care of it. The idea is that we should all be on the same page about this, since DI is not something that common across the Mazda line-up previously and this is something that we should all be aware of, but not lose sleep over.
On that note, a NATOR compression test session will defintely be useful and educational.
get me samples of whatever pieces you want made....I can laser cut aluminum/mild/stainless to any profile and have access to CNC mills and lathes.
Ok let's talk to Ice_manF1 see if he'll let you have a look at the bushings he has. I believe he lives in Oakville so if you're in Port Credit you guys aren't too far apart (I'm really speculating here)
Breakfasteatre, to be honest the parts we're talking here are not so expensive that I would consider doing even more of a hack job. Yeh so you may not think you got 20 bucks worth of parts when your bushings showed up, but hey if they work it's only 20 bucks.
but it seems like we have the opportunity to possibly have this stuff made and just need parts for him to work off of. Does anyone have an EGR block off kit lying around that terapro can take a look at?
Since I don't have a speed, obviously the injector seals don't apply to me? Unless an 04 with 150k should replace their injector seals (I have a feeling I'm about to be flamed because I don't have any.....).
Is throttle body cleaning almost the same on the speeds and non speeds?
