    Default Will this work?

    Hi guys,

Just got a bone stock 09 GT hatch. Has the factory sound system with 6 disk cd changer.

    I would like to do the following;

1 Add aftermarket head unit with blue tooth.
    2. Keep LCD with mileage etc
3 Keep the ALC feature that automatically raises/lowers the volume with speed.
    3. Keep car looking stock by installing after market HU in glove box and leave factory HU where it is.

From browsing, I believe I need to keep the factory HU for the LCD to work. Most people who do this, seem to install it in the glove box and install the aftermarket HU in the factory location. Can I do the opposite? This way the car will look stock while having an aftermarket HU in the glove box. The factory unit will just be a dummy. I dont want to use it for anything other than the lcd.

Anybody see a problem doing this?

I could be wrong but LCD should be able to be kept on a 09. Maybe a different harness or something. if I am wrong I believe that the LCD wouldn't work after you disconnect the stock hu.

You can install the aftermarket hu elsewhere, anywhere you like( someone was selling a piece that mounts it above the stock hu a little while ago. ) i

ALC would need to be on the unit you buy.

Check out the current GB on a stock looking HU with some or all of the features you want.

Are you planning on getting a single or a double din?

    Just a single DIN

I assumed the ALC was tied to the factory HU like the mileage etc. Is that correct?
    Peterm15, what is GB?

Oh ok, cause I recently replaced my deck as well on a 06, which I think are similar. From my experience you can keep the LCD screen as long as you buy a Metra kit, but Im not too in regards to your case and what youre able to keep, cause for me the LCD only displays the weather.

06-09 you do not need the factory head unit to keep the LCD screen.

Before unplugging the factory HU make sure you have it on the display you want on the left... Then unplug the factory HU and plug the new deck in... Do not unplug the LCD screen.. And it will stay at the setting.

If you disconnect your battery in the future you will have to plug the factory deck back in to set the settings for left side of the LCD screen.

So I wont be able to switch between fuel mileage, DTE etc? Not sure how much use that will be.
How about ALC? Is there a way to keep that?

No... All that is controlled through your factory deck... What ever you set it at will stay.... If you want to change it plug the factory deck back and change it

Ah well. Guess I will have to do without those features. Not sure how accurate the mileage info is. Will have to empty a few tanks and calculate by hand to see.

Who cares about the LCD display mileage.
You are better off calculating it yourself at the pump when you fill up.
Ask yourself how many times you will use that feature.
IMO just upgrade deck and throw out OEM, by putting a deck in your glovebox you will not be able to control it easily

Once the HU is set up the way I like, I dont really need easy access to it. I only use the radio to stream audio via BT and I can use the steering controls for volume or the odd time I want to switch to radio or usb etc. Also, I wont have to worry about the car as much if the HU looks stock to peeping eyes.

You can do it, you would just have to cut the wires at the back of the oem deck and reroute them to the glove box.
Shouldnt be that hard, you OEM deck would not output sound at all so it would be there just for the OEM look
