Welp, TWM replacement is installed.... much better.

Thinking I'll still get a fluid replacement next, sounds like Jimmy is the man to visit

I have a 2012 mazdaspeed with 14000km on it, you guys think its worth changing over to ford fluids on my next maintainence? I am going to install SSP+SSB, Heavy shift knob and counter weight as soon as the JBR group buy goes through. 1-2 is not as precise as the rest of the throws I find.

P.S. Thanks for all the help lately... you guys have been a huge help!

i did my first trans fluid change at 24,000 km. next is going to be in the spring at 72,000k. if you dont think 1-2 is that precise, pull the shifer trim off and relight the cables from the orange tab, i did it in my 5spd and i found it much better. even makes it into reverse every time now and before it would take a few times.

I had Budds put Amsoil synthetic in my tranny along with a 62d RMM at 24,000km and I put solid shifter bushing and a TWM short linkage shift kit with adjustable counter weights after to make it even better and the first part solved my 2-3rd grind and made the tranny feel way more positive 2nd steps was for my shifting preference and pleasure!
P.S do not use Ford friction modifier live with LSD whine at very low speeds and tight turns or I have heard you will counter the effect of swapping out fluid to stop grind.

I can't imagine stretching that much in such a short period of time. It is more likely to be your engine mounts are softening up. Everyone here should have at minimum upgraded their RMM from stock.

Agreed! the RMM upgrade gets rid of a lot of head bobbing while shifting but the major issue is with getting the adjustment right when you are going up and down the cable/shaft... it took me forever but I spent a long time trying out slightly different positions until I got it right. Having the Counter weight and heavy shift knob help the shifts go in lightning quick if you have everything aligned correctly. I have mine to the point so when I shift 2nd to 3rd it almost feels like it's going in by itself when I get it perfect every once in a while. Before it was garbage compared to all what it feels like now(with 4 shifting upgrades + adjustment).

That seems very bothering since this fluid is specified by FORD for several of thier vehicles. The dealer must be substituing some cheaper fluid.

ford syncromesh and i think the speeds get the lsd additive as well but i dont know what ford calls that. just put the syncromesh in the gfs 3. very nice so far. think i might put it in mine in 2 services.

The "synchromesh" fluid is a GM fluid. Could be used by other manufacturers too but it's definitely a GM thing, not so sure about Ford.

The Ford fluid doesn't have a special name, the label just says "full synthetic manual transmission fluid". The way to distinguish the fluids is by the Ford part number which is, as said, XT-M5-QS. The friction modifier additive for the LSD is not recommended for the speed3. At least not according to Fobio, who has relayed information that many members of MSF were not happy with the results of using the additive.

    Some info here.

    1-2 shift hard is useless
Oh damn, that sucks. Oh well, I stopped reading the Speed section because according to certain people only speed owners are allowed to even look at that section.
