    Default My Shock/Suspension Set-Up... Questions!!

I have some questions and I've browsed the forums extensively and am still uncertain and thought I'd post a question here.

I currently am lowered on Eibach Sportlines and everything else in the suspension is stock (wip's old hatch). It's a 2004 2.3 L M3. I'm worried the car is going to be too low in winter as the streets where I am are already SHIT plus I need to add aftermarket shocks anyway as the stock ones aren't cutting it.

Now my MAIN questions are these.

    1. Regardless I am getting a camber kit.. is there any difference between different brands.. if I had coilovers will I need different camber arms for different heights or just adjustable ones.

    2. I'm debating between getting aftermarket shocks and therefore keeping the sportlines and the drop, and buying coilovers that are adjustable so that I can raise it up to a one inch drop in the winter and drop it back down to 1.8-2 inches for summer. I would then sell the sportlines etcetera etcetera!
What's everyones opinions on this? Which makes more sense? Keep in mind I don't track the car nor will I ever. I like being comfortable but I'm getting a RMM and enjoy my car being high performance and having good handling but again the car isn't a racecar even if SOMETIMES I'll drive it like one.

    3. Now last question, if you think I should get coilovers.. whats a good brand for the price and for my goal of a street driven car with good handling and adjustability but nothing crazy. And if you think I should get aftermarket shocks and keep the sportlines should I get koni yellow? Koni orange? Or something completely different?

    4. Last throw in question... I'm debating urethane bushings as I'm going to be swapping it all out anyway.. is the difference noticeable at all? Is it over my head kinda stuff that only trackers will really notice or will it help with actual shock performance and longevity and therefore should be something I should consider?

Sorry for the long post guys hopefully you bear through it and can give me a decent idea of what to do! I hope I'll get some good info here cause I'm looking to make the suspension change late October or early November.

    1. No not really, Eibach is usually the preferred brand, so long as they are adjustable.
    2. That's not a question really, but I'll answer it. Don't go buying shocks and springs, and then coilovers later, just get the coilovers to begin with.
    3. BC BR Coilovers are a huge hit in my mind, easy install, and easy use. New: $1200 used: $800
For the shocks, do you want adjustable? Get yellow. Don't care? Get Orange. Bilstien are also used here, but not as popular.
    4. Which bushing?
Modifications? I've forgotten more than I remember. Click here for the list.

i had sportlines and i drove threw winter twice, no problems, problem with springs as they get older they get saggy ass syndrome.

my opinion dont sepnd money on shocks if you think you want coils. just get coils. and sell the springs.

Thanks for the replys guys! I think I'm going to keep the sportlines through the winter until a good deal comes up on some coilovers. I AM going to get some camber arms though, like suggested Eibach, probably from NextMod. If anybody knows where would be better I'd love to know.
    Cheers!

If you want to buy 'local', talk to alphamotorsports. I recently picked up a pair of spc adjustable camber arms from them; cheaper than all other sponsors here by a good margin.

This looks great I already have a PO box so it's perfect. Was going to order some plastidip too. One question though. Do I need front camber arms as well as rear ones?

    No such thing.
The front you would have to buy aftermarket strut mounts. Don't worry about the front.

    1. Eibach, SPC or JBarone camber arms. I'm running SPC.
    2. Coilovers if you think you're going that direction already.
    3. BC coilover is a great choice, I'm running these as well. $800 from Kijiji, like new. Think I got lucky.
    4. ?

My 2 cents. I have my BCs at highest ride height, I think medium stiffness and it's still pretty stiff for street. It's quite noticeable on bumpy roads and I'm dreading the potholes this winter. I am used to it by now but if you want to keep the ride comfortable for DD, I would reconsider getting COs. It's a tradeoff between awesome handling vs comfort.

for the front camber you could just buy the corksport camber plates, got mine for 2 bills last season (prototypes that I picked up on MF)
