    Default Snots - Rocket Build

As some of you already know this fall I experienced massive fail resulting in a block peep hole.... As pissed off as I am, still pretty stoked for the next stage of my build.

I was logging when I threw the rod..

Lucky for me i have a second vehicle to drive this winter while I piece together a motor. Saturday Bluestreak, myself, and a few other NATOR TO members will be pulling the motor to see what can be salvaged. Im really hoping the head isnt damaged as I have a MSF member sending me his short block, crank, and girdle to get things started.

So here are the details on my build.. This is my first build so any input will be appreciated.

Direct Injection Pistons (9.5:1 CR stock bore) and Molnar Rods will be coming from Positive Fabrications.

Looks like the engine knew it was coming - Also, your reaction time is amazing - you were off the throttle super quickly.
I don't know a lot about what I'm looking at... but what i see is that the engine said "oh shit, Knocking" and within quarter of a second, you were off the throttle. I'm assuming the knock sensor going off basically met that was the point of doom?

I'm interested to know more! what was the cause of failure? (other than the massive ****ing crack in the side of your block, of course) What broke/squeaked and why?

Don't know what you mean by the engine knew it was coming. There was no sign of failure until the failure event at 7.7 KR.

And it wasn't oh shit knock, it would have sounded like a canon went off in the engine bay. You would have let off the throttle too.

snot you decide whether you want this to be a what happened thread, a build thread or a bit of both...I will keep it that way

So here's the plan, we're gonna patch up that teeny tiny crack with some JB weld and put everything back together. Good to go.

The knock was the rod letting go... I had no indication that was coming other then a little misfire just prior.. checked for a bent rod at the time and everything seemed fine.. little did i know...

If you look at RPMs after the 3.2* KR event, RPMs started dropping despite Snotrocket holding the throttle for ~.1 seconds longer. The motor was already dead

    Let's get this bish ripping!

Sorry about the mishap. Just out of curiosity, where exactly is the crack located? Which cylinder is it close to?

Also, could that dip in fuel pressure be a factor as well? I assume you're running a stage 2 map and it's calling for 1749 psi, but then pressure dropped to 1669 psi and rushed back up to 1840 psi. Maybe that sudden fluctuation might have caused the the rod to give way? Just a speculation...

    Good luck on the build!

Custom map. that quick dip wouldn't bust a rod but good thought! Cylinder 4 I believe.

Your rod was probably suffered lots of knock in the past and may have developed a stress fracture. Once you put in the big turbo it just generated more cylinder pressure than what the rod could hold up against.

Me: "There's no coolant in the system. It must've poured all over the road"
    Snot: "Nope, just oil"

    Later that day...

Snot: "I'm going to drain the remaining oil before we pull the motor."

Almost pure coolant comes out of the oil pan. Haha.
