Default Safe Mode vs. Stage 1 OTS Breakpoints

Was snooping through ATR and noticed the diffference in breakpoints between the Safe Mode and Stage 1 OTS maps. Zone A and B are identical but Zone C and beyond vary.

For Safe Mode, Zone C jumps to 200g/s, which, as I'm sure many of you know, is very different than the Stage 1 OTS map. I wanted to know if anyone knows why Cobb chose their tune this way. I've been running Safe Mode until my internals get in, with the Cobb SRI being the only mod so far. I'm doing a lot of highway driving soon and wanted to know what going to get me the best fuel economy while ensuring I don't somehow blow up. Stage 1 OTS or Safe Mode.

I would run the Stage 1 OTS map but keep a close eye on fuel pressures. If it starts to drop below 1600psi at WOT then drop back down to Safe mode.

As for the breakpoints, you can just copy the stage1 breakpoints over to the Safe mode map. There's no harm in doing that.

Safe mode is that way for a reason (not just breakpoints)

    Leave it that way.

If you compare breakpoints between v210 and v231 you will see they are also different.

And if this turns into another fuel economy thread it'll be deleted

    I figured this.

Loki, do you think doing a MAF calibration even on a safe mode map offers any advantage?

Hey Odin, the MAF calibration should be done all with all intakes you install on your car... Even the stock one you can calibrate to be more accurate. So yes you should calibrate it so your car is running better in general.

for sure there is no harm calibrating the MAF for closed loop driving, though the whole point of having the car in safe mode is to drive it around carefully anyway, so unless your trims are way out of whack, you'll likely be in closed loop for most of the time anyway so the ECU will be compensating to hit your fuel targets.

If safe mode only offers 2 useable break points there really is no point calibrating with it. Copy the breakpoints over from the Stage1 map (drive around for 100km) then calibrate in safe mode.

Edit: To clarify, I'm referring to CL MAF calibration. For OL calibration, breakpoints dont matter.
