@ wisecracker; that sounded like a great challenge. Too bad they don't do stuff like that around Ottawa. Oh and I forgot to mention that doing 90 kms per hour straight back, I was able to get it down to 4.6 - 4.7 L per 100 km. I mean.. That's unbelievable man !!! Do you realize that's approx. 1330 km to a freaking tank baby !!! For a mid size car ta boot WOOT W O O T. And the nice thing is if there's a day I wanna frat myself to a "spirited" drive to work one day, my car can do that too so I have a car that does the best of both worlds.
Thanks for the props Wisecraker and congrats on doin the challenge. Stay in touch on pm and shoot me some stats once in a while too ok?

Will do, I'm still enjoying my new car so my driving is smart someways and much more fun others lol. When I do some serious fuel efficiency tests I will let you know. Also I don't have a Sky-active I have a 2.0I GX with no sky-active so we can compare.

I will be driving from Montreal to Toronto next Sunday.

Hoping to bump into some of you tm3 members on the road haha

The last roadtrip I did was going to Quebec city and I was averaging 5.3L/100km going at 119km/h

Sounds like a plan man...Since both motors are 2.0 L, the comparisons should be interesting...say...you thinkin of trading up bro ? ?

    Hey SkyG, when you do your next trip, take these factors into account and write it down;
    - luggage if any
    - how many passengers
    - road conditions
    - cruise control yes/no
    - speed travelled
    - use of a/c yes/no
    - fuel type; reg, mid-grade, super, and where (shell, esso, etc)
    - % of city, highway (this can play a factor in fuel consumption)

When I did a TO trip a few weeks ago, on way back, I set cruise at 90 km all the way back to Ottawa, and I got about 4.6 L/100 km ! ! ! I said av because I didn't fill up upon return and ended up doing about 200 km of city/highway...so my "roadtrip" app logged 4.95/100km for my stat...but I gotta say that's pretty good for a 2012 Skyactiv huh.
any other ?'s, shoot me a pm

This is how all members should record fuel mileage. Would give us the best look at how to keep fuel consumption down

I'll be sure to include these factors on Sunday

I got my ultra-gauge so I am not doing the calculation maually

Although I know there's a difference between travelling at 100km/h and 120km/h but we are going to Toronto with 4 cars and I know one of them drivers like to drive pretty fast so we'll be most likely to cruise at 120km/h most of the time just like the Quebec trip we did a few weeks ago.

However I know our sky did much better than his gs as we were pulling into the gas station on our way back, I still had half tank left while he had only 1/4 left on his tank.

Let me know how you like your ultraguage! Also track your fuel economy on fuelly.com. It's a quick 2secomd thing that Will record your mileage (I just saved the website as an icon in my iPhone) when you put it in. I use my UG as a reference and fuelly as truth

Its a OBDII device that, well plugs into your car and gives you a digital reading. I bought mine because i hated not knowing my engine temp. ive scanned my car, and buddies car to check for codes, which it did so in my opinion its paid for itself.

    Heres the website

    Ultraguage

and a pic of what it looks like (not my picture)

I do like it and it works really good.

I've calibrated it and since we have MAF sensor, it's fairly accurate for calculating the mileage.

Of course having the extra gauges is always nice.

How do you use the maf sensor for mileage? I always like learning different ways to use it

hmm i think UG sense the sensor automatically, but you can manually choose it in the "ultragauge setup" > "version" > "MPG sensor" then choose MAF

    - Is it hard to install?
    - Does it come from the states?
    - Is the fuel consumption app accurate do you find?

    1) It just plugs into your OBDII port near your left kneecap
    2) Literally takes 5 seconds
    3) Made in china i believe, but is an american owned company whatever that means haha
    4) Meh, i use fuelly to track my fuel mileage/consumption but what i find it does best and what i use it for, is a guide to driving better. Since i can watch my instantanious MPG, i can see just how much fuel i use when 'on it' and how lightly taking your foot off can keep you going the same speed, with technically less fuel being used. I like it but i find you need to figure out a way to not constantly watch it

So true Wisecracker, I have a 2004 mazda 3 and get 630km per tank (a 50L) and I thought that was great but now Im in the market to get a new car. I was looking at the Dodge Dart and the Chevy Cruze both good on gas but then I heard from my dealer about the Skyactive and I really think that this will be my next car due to the fact I always wanted a car that could do 1000km or better on a full tank with regular gas not diesel. I like saving money for other stuff rather then putting it into my tank! PM me anytime anyone with great STATS on fuel saving tips or STATS. Cheers!

You then drive another two weeks with a goal to beat your baseline stats by 10%. At the end of it all you get a 25 dollar gas card for participating and a 25 dollar gas card for beating your 10% target. Let me say I saved about 70 dollars in two weeks by following their tips and tricks. That's almost $2000 a year!
The main tips were drive as close to or under 100 on the highway. Every km over 100 you drive is roughly 1% more gas your using. 10 seconds of idle is roughly equal to the amount of gas you need to start your car. There re many more tips. But the fact remains. If you want to hard start, hard stop, gun it on the highway or drive crazy, then you'd better be ready to pay for it. Think about what you could so with around 2000, the vacations, the car mods, the house payments.....or you can be cool and drive hard, always. It's your choice but I will be making my decision from Hawaii.

There is at least a 10 liter overflow capacity in these tanks. I can fill it almost to 65 L in a tank if I really want to fill it.
