Default AUX mod free version installed

    Happy New Year!

So after seeing the thread (which I can't believe I missed) it took all of 45mins. The CD audio connector is called "mpc2 cd-rom audio cable" tiger direct has them $1.99. but I had an old x486 to get my parts from.

an DAMN! my new BlkBry 9790's camera worked darn well! I'm impressed

Ah you are one of the lucky ones that has a "Media" button on your stock HU, but no Aux input!

Ha! yup, every year I learn that I made the right choice of the 2006 year and GT model. I just cancelled my XM/Sirius since I only listened to BPM and Electronic chls. and was pissed that the OEM stereo unit can't read mp3's? my old 2000 HU could read mp3s off CDRWs. any who's I finally stepped into the present and bought a 9790, but had to figure a way to connect it. I was going to buy the auxmod, but then ran into the post. Thank goodness!

forgot to mention our units are made by Clarion! and I've been very happy with the OEM unit, added two 10"subs (no LOC either) love the system.

I still have a cleanly soldered wire for this mod if anyone else wants to do it. I have no use for it.

you could've found an 8 terminal connector at an electronics store and used that instead of having exposed terminals.... safer in case the wires fall off!
good work though... yours is a neater hack job than most I've seen

Anyone know if this kind of AUX mod can work with an aftermarket HU? I wouldn't mind trying something like this without having to get a whole kit.

Why would you need it with an after market? Don't most have aux in?

Most, but not all. If you look at the Pioneer line, They have ipod/iphone input, but no aux input.

Cool. Mind if I come by one day to take a look at your setup? I'm just curious to see how it looks.

Sure I just dont have my car yet until tomorrow evening lol

Anyway I don't know how to take out my HU but the cables are there.
I just plug in a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack in the cable to my friend's ipod or whatever if he/she wants to hear their music I just press my HU to Audio (I think. I dont remember LOL my cars been in the shop for awhile) and it works! Clean sound no white/pink noise at all.

And to get the iPod feature I'd have to buy this but I'm with Android so it wouldn't work with mine as I'd use BT. It plugs into the cable as I've explained before.

That's exactly what I would need! I would probably just cut off the male end so I can connect the aux input in my glove box. Wicked!

Default AUX mod free version installed

Any chance your aux input is on the back of the unit.

I know my pioneer deck does.

I thought I would have concerns about the jumper on pin 13 being loose, but it's not.

An added bonus to this mod is I can use my cell speaker on the stereo, for 'free' hands free LOL

Don't know where you got that from. I've not seen a single person have an issue with the GTA Car Kit.
And it gives you both iPod and Aux connectors, AND retains steering wheel controls (I believe 2011 and up had some issues they were working out a while back).

why are there two responders to this thread calling this a "hack job" or "hacking up some wires"? Does it look like a hack job? it looks like I took a MPC2 cable, cut it, re-pinned it, and plugged it in the back of the OEM unit. Calling this a 'hack job' takes away from the time and effort another Mazda enthusiast took to figure out what the pin-outs are so others can benefit too.

    it works perfectly
