    Very cute kids everyone!

I wanted to ask the Dad and Mom club of TM3 about newborns. Not my own, I'm not married yet. I wanted to put together some sort of care/gift package for my gf's sister who is due this summer.

What are some things the family would need within the first month or week of having a newborn (can be for the parents or for the newborn, more for the kid)? This would be the first child so everyone is super excited. So far I have a super soft baby blanket. I guess I could give this gift package as part of the baby shower.

    Thanks in advance.

    diapers - formula - diapers....
One of the best gifts we got was a baby-wipe warmer.

If it's their first child, chances are - they are all set for supplies, clothes, etc. So the best gift could be something for the parents-to-be, Like date night certificates for Dinner and a movie, or even a Salon gift certificate for the mom-to-be (pre-paid manicure/pedicure)

^^ Sleepers, diaper genie, diapers (pampers are best imo), receiving blankets, changing station, swaddle me sleeper, waterproof sheet (on one side), wipes, What to Expect in your First Year book (too many to list).

Also you should ask if they have a registry.

Diaper genie, wipe warmer are awesome gifts. Volunteering for baby-sitting duties during date night is also a great gesture!

    Not so much. Lol.

I was volunteered by my GF ( with her help) to babysit once. Worst 6 hrs of mu life. After that any time she volunteered I went to the bar.
Although the child was colicky (sp*)

    Edit*

Btw it is probably the best thing you can do for parents. Just make sure you meet the child a few times first.

you beat me to it Aitch! but ya, the best gifts i received were a diaper genie and a thermoscan ear thermometer. you'll definately use the diaper genie everyday for a new-born for a couple of years. it might not seem like you put alot of thought into it but gift cards are good because of certain items they might need down the road and also a new mom will be super picky for what she wants for her child. on the side, make sure the parents see you wash your hands before you touch the baby =]

Don't worry, I wouldn't have left our guy with anyone when he had colic. Only once he was sleeping soundly in the evenings did we do that.

There's my two girls. One 3 year old and one 3 month old.

And here's the first snowman of the year.

With 2 girls my biggest worry is the impending teen years...

I'd suggest diapers, wipes, and/or frozen homemade meals. Of course, I wouldn't give them the frozen homemade meals until the baby is born. They will be so glad when it's time to eat and all they have to do is throw something in the microwave or oven and BAM. Homemade meal.

I'm wondering how you guys are dealing with the car seat situation. My little guy is almost a year old now and he's grown out of his rear facing Graco Snugride 35. We bought a Safety 1st dual (rear or front facing) car seat for 30lbs to 65lbs.

The problem is there is no way I can set it up rear facing cuz the rear is too small. Right now its set up as front facing (which he is loving it!) but officially due to his age/weight, he's supposed to rear facing still.

It still blows my mind to see my little guy in a front facing car seat...time flies!

one of the reasons I had to get a larger vehicle
(you probably already did) but have you tried behind the passenger seat - with the front seat pulled all the way up?
Most likely, Wifey would have to sit in the back seat though.

Yeah Eric, thats the only way it will work. Wifey is strongly against being in the back seat with him.

She thinks that's how "immigrants" roll.

My wife said the same thing about riding in the back (she's Sri Lankan).... before the baby was born. She's been riding in the back for 8 months now.

Our guy is getting pretty tight in his infant seat when he's bundled up, otherwise he is ok.... hoping he lasts in it until April because my folks bought us the next car seat but it is in Florida until then lol. At that point he should be big enough to go forward facing safely.

FYI, you are not allowed to import car seats from other countries because they don't adhere to the Canadian safety regulations.

Yeah i found out about that when i tries to import a Recaro baby seat.

Instead - you can get a custom cover made that says Recaro (or anything for that matter)

That's my plan for my upcoming vehicle purchase (my lease is up early July).

In my car (a Kia Soul) I have the car seat rear facing behind the passenger seat with it almost fully forward...it's a tight fit for my wife but she can manage because she's short. In her car, we put the car seat behind the driver seat so I could fit in the passenger seat. When our son was still in the bucket carrier I had to sit in the back of my wifes car as she was adamant about it being behind the passenger seat at that time.

    awesome thread Aitch!

This is our Monkey, he is 12 weeks old. His Colic has gotten much better now he is getting a bit older, but still has some acid reflux issues causing him to spit up quite often, but nothing abnormal. He smiles when he sees hot girls which is a plus, and his "poo face" is f^&*king hilarious.

He finally got his first round of booster shots last night, he took the first one like a champ - then realized what was going on, and went ape shit for the second needle. LOL

We are using a Britax infant seat and like everyone else, the passenger seat is almost all the way up. My wife has no choice but to sit in the back with him. Since we live in Brampton, we blend right in with the 'immigrants' haha.
