Default Xenon Headlight - No Leveling Switch?

I looked at a 2008 GT, with leather and auto climate control. I assume it is fully loaded. It had the projector style bi-xenon headlights and a switch inside to adjust them. It's the switch on the far left, left of the steering column, next to the dimmer for the instrument lights (which is second to the far left).

I also looked at a 2007 GT, no leather but as far as I can tell exactly the same car otherwise. It has what appears from the outside to be the same type of headlight, but has no headlight leveling switch inside the car, that part of the switch panel is blanked out. It only has the dimmer for the instrument lights. The 2007 owners manual talks about the leveling switch but says "some models only."

I have searched and searched but can't find much info on this. Why would one car have a switch, and the other not have it - yet they both have the same projector style bi-xenon headlight?

1st gens only have single xenon headlights.

All models have projector housings but the non-xenon models (without the leveling switch) have halogen projectors instead of xenon projectors. They pretty much look the same from the outside.

Thanks, that clarifies it. I can't find a copy of a 2007 or 2008 brochure anywhere to understand the option packages, but I'm assuming that the xenon headlights was part of an option package that included leather? I previously had assumed that all GT's had the xenon as standard. It's just that they all look the same - probably a little different at night with the lights on.

I believe the Xenon HID headlights came with the Luxury Package from those corresponding years. In order to get HIDs you would also have leather, auto climate control..etc?

it might be that the 2007 model packages were a little different than the 2008s. I'm not sure how the models vary but you can google it. I think the luxury package is the only one that has the leather seats, climate control, xenon lights.

Not true, I have a 2009 Mazda 3 GT hatch. I have cloth heated seats, no auto climate (wish I did though), and I still have stock HID headlights, with leveling switch. They options were so mix-matched on these, it's hard to tell them apart.

Edit: May have had seats changed to cloth, but my car is a GT model.

There is no way to add auto climate controls so if that car has them then it is definitely a GT with Luxury. The VIN will tell either way though.

That is odd that it doesn't have a levelling switch as I'm pretty sure the 2008s with OEM Xenon came with the levelling switch.

Are you sure there are currently stock HIDs? Someone could have swapped them out before they traded the car in to sell them.

According to the 2008 brochure the 2008 "Luxury Package" came with OEM HIDs with Manual Levelling.

In 2009 (possibly 2008.5 not sure though) they came standard on the GT models.

I have a 2008 Mazda 3 GT with heated cloth seats and the self levelling system for the HID lights... Rain sensing wipers... auto head lights... but I don't have the auto dimming rear view mirror which kinda sucks for night time driving...

No one does. It's an accessory option.

Tint and a flick of the mirror does a great job. To be honest, my gf has one one her Dodge and I don't like it. It's way too dark.

    I found this link http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/pdf/...3_brochure.pdf

I dunno if this helps to clarify things a bit.

It doesn't help much because it's US related.

The page I quoted above is straight from the 2008 Canadian brochure.

no levelling switch = crappy aftermarket HIDs
all factory HIDs on these cars have the levelling switch

overseas versions have auto levelling control, thus no switch, but it doesn't apply here obviously
