Scary to think there are 18-wheelers being driven by people who have no idea what a freeway exit lane is. Good thing I'm not a typical Canadian driver and was paying enough attention to slow down and give him space.
Do go on, I need a good laugh.
Maybe he was trying to change over earlier but traffic wasnt giving him space... I have seen it happen.
While you did do the right thing in letting him. I wouldnt call him a moron for taking a bit extra time for the lane change.
Most truckers are nice people ( read most... not all... I have seen a few true moron truckers) if you are nice to them.
Also by law truckers should aim to keep in the right most lane as to not slow down traffic too much. theres also many areas around freeways where its packed and the signage sometimes doesnt show if your lane is going to end or a new lane is going to open up as it is not indicated in some cases until the last hundred meters.

Pretty clear from the video that I let people merge, no matter how recklessly they're doing it. You're clutching at straws while I'm referring to video evidence, brah.

Asyed, the guy you were filming is a dumbass. First off, the other guy trying to switch lanes had his blinker on for a while. He saw he was trying to change lanes and the guy didn't yield....which is a moving violation. Guy in the red car is a douche. He makes no effort to slow down at first and even looks like he's speeding up to not let the guy switch lanes. Unreal....

there is no law in ontario that states you must yield to anyone who has their blinker on ( aside from buses). having your blinker on does not mean you have the right of way. The person in the camry was at fault. Even if the red car sped up to let him in, it was still very idiotic of the camry driver to try and squeeze in ( He should have gotten the message to wait for an opening and then change lanes) . I myself do let people in if they have their blinker on.... but only if it is safe to do so.
Well at least in Quebec there is a law that if someone has their blinker on, you cannot speed up to block them from manoeuvring. From what it looks like in the video, the camry driver had enough room but the red car sped up to block his move. He also had a very safe distance to simply let off the throttle and let the camry in.
If you have your blinker on and someone is in your blind spot or is right beside you, obviously it doesn't mean you just go without checking your surroundings and making sure it is safe to complete the move. I never said otherwise.
For him to speed up and pass the camry so the camry gets in back of him is equally as douchy.
look, I am a major douche myself lol but I am just pointing out my observations on the matter.
I see.
For the record the driver of the red car is a friend of mine. I talked to him about it and he said he did not speed up and was on cruise control.
Slowing down in order to let the other one in works in some situations but in this situation it would slow down a line of cars entering the freeway. Young drivers actually teaches you to speed up when changing lanes so the correct course of action for the camry should have been speeding up and passing infront instead of insisting on going in that one small gap.
As well the driver of the camry seemed to have no situational awareness even after cutting my friend off she continued on like nothing happened.

He's not an idiot. He just used his own discretion. He's a law breaker but he clearly was safe to do what he did.
It's like saying someone's an idiot for eating a chicken nugget because it could have easily been a piece of dog shit. If you look at the situation and can see that you're not holding dog shit in your hand, you're generally safe to proceed.
