Default Backup Camera Splice to Reverse Lights Question

Um... ya how do you do it? I have the wire right there and it just needs to be connected to a power source that will only come on when the car is in reverse. their are two wires that connect to the bulb and where it sits. Which one do I splice/solder to? Is there another way of doing this that I'm missing?

Why does the unit have to be connected to the backup light? I thought you only had to connect the camera to it?

It acts as a signal to the headunit to switch to the camera input. Without it you would have to manually press the camera button.

No I mean. The diagram shows the unit and the camera being connected to the backup lights power source. I thought it went
    camera to backup lights power
    camera to ground
    camera to unit video in...
what am I missing... where I connect the camera to the unit I have a red wire that could be connected somewhere... I connected it to the back of my unit where there is a wire with (Back Up Camera Control) written on it. But I dunno...

Are you saying that red wire by the unit also needs to be connected somehow to the power source that only turns on when the car is put into reverse?

yeah exactly. on mine (Caska) the wire was blue.

The image in the link below is the best way to describe the setup

reverse light power --> camera screen trigger on headunit
reverse light power --> reverse camera
camera video out --> camera input on headunit

OKayyy. I think I get it. I feel like this shouldn't be that hard but I literally was like 5 hours at this outside and eventually I got a screen of black fuzz and that was it... so I thought I better ask. haha. Thanks again if I have more questions I'll let you know.

good luck with the install. If you want to test that the camera is working you could connect it to 12V and press the camera button. Then move on to setting up the reverse trigger.

WooHoo! I got it working ! The only thing I need to do now is to hide the wires a little better between the jack enclosure and the left reverse light... gotta be a panel that goes through...might just say &%^ it and use a little bit of black duck tape. Regardless it work hallelujah.
    Thanks again!!

There is a grommet from the body to the hatch. Run the wires up the c pillar and to the headliner. There are only a couple clips to pop out at the back of the headliner and then you can see where all the wires go. Use the left grommet. Then you just have to snap off a couple plastics.

Cool. So I did all that. Works like a beauty I go to back up out of the driveway and the fuse for the reverse lights blows. I replace it and try again and it blows again... problems? If my ground isn't good could that be the cause?

check the wiring at your reverse light, the negative may be in contact with the ground.

The ground IS the negative wire.. but regardless it was just a loose connection of my ground wire around the screw... tightened it up and adjusted the angle and for 15 bucks and half a day I have a back up camera.

Best part of this is like an idiot I discovered that I'd been driving with the fuse for my reverse lights blown which makes backing up in general very difficult.
