    Default quarter panel rust work

    hey everyone
as with every mazda my rear quarter panels are rusting and i want to get it fixed
does anyone know or recommend a body shop that can fix rust? (preferably in markham)
I have attached pictures to show what the rust looks like - the worst of it is that picture where it has started to bubble over this past winter
knew i should have fixed it sooner

We're at Yonge and Steeles. If you want I can get a quote for you, or you can come in and have it looked at on the spot - 93 Glen Cameron Rd

just so everyone knows Mazda does offer repair panels for the rear quarters and the price point isnt too bad. You still need a body shop to do the work but it is a great alternative to repairing the existing metal.

IMO if rust bothers you sell the car and don't look back. You will spend a fortune trying to fix it and it will just come back after a year or two max.
I got mine fixed at mazda under warranty and it was starting to come back after one year. Got them to refix it and then sold the car.
Canada gave us rust and DRL. Thanks for nothing Canada!

Now that Mazda offers replacement panels it's more a matter of finding a good shop. With the car in this thread I would say new panels or don't bother.

no matter what, the car will rust. no matter how well u want to prevent it or take care of it. it will happen. i was told by a former member that washing the car once a week might help. since itll get rid of the salt or dirt grit. since the salt and dirt would eventually puncture the paint. it should really slow down the rust.

sadly, its a thing with mazdas and a lot of japanese cars...even the nissan r35 GTR has a rusting problem.... but those people are rich enough that it isnt a problem

^ If the panels are replaced properly the rust will not come back in two years. 5+ sure but 2 years no.

I still stand by the issue being finding a competent body shop

Exactly.... If mine comes back I'm just going to buy the replacement panel... My goal is to keep my car for as long as I can lol

Ive had my car fixed 3 times. Once by mazda and twice by two otherbody shops. Each time the rust was cut out and new medal welded in. It comes back every time.
Your lucky if it lasts 2 years.

I'm not exactly lucky. I krown, and I spray the quarters every week in the winter, my car too has been repaired three times (none at my own cost). With the last time is the first time they used a replacement panel on the drivers side.

Where did the rust come back? Around the weld that was used to attach the panel or on the new metal itself?

Don't get me wrong would I buy a new (to me) mazda with rust? No. But I would heavily weigh the pros and cons of fixing vs selling and buying a new vehicle and starting the rigmarole a new. Having 0 payments is pretty valuable to me...

Its come back where the weld is and around the wheel well. Ive never even heard of this replacement panel they offer, which pisses me off. I would never buy another Mazda in my life, they have the absolute WORST customer service ever.
How much did you pay for that replacement pannel with body work?

See that's the thing welding the panel on takes a person who cares about the longevity of the car and that's hard to find under warrenty.

    Method to my madness
warranty 1 wait a year rust started back, go back for warranty 2, rust started back, go back to warranty 3 but this time directly to the body shop and I was like look this is ridic now do you want to see me every year?

Then I rolled my fenders and it voided the warranty so now I am on my own.

The rear fender panels as Mazda calls them are $192.02 each (retail price)

Makes sense..welds will rust in a days time and if they did not properly epoxy seal the weld/s or where the panels over lap, you will have rust every time for sure.

Like Dave said, if it is done properly by someone who cares about the longevity of the vehicle, it wont rust.

That's kind of silly. I doubt anyone on this board doesn't worry about rust. Nobody wants that shit and if they knew beforehand they'd probably never have bought one.
