Question Used 2008 Mazda 3 GT with 150K on the car ?

    Hi,
I was looking through cars and found 2008 used Mazda 3 GT for 7 grand. The only issue seemed to be 150,000 kilometers. The car has been owned by one owner and he said mostly highway driving and there is no other issue with the car. he said he has been doing regular maintenance on the car and it hasnt given him any trouble.

Does it seem too good to be true ?

I am new to Canada so i am not sure but the car looks nice. 150Ks are a bit more than what i want but it sounds like a good deal. Its nearly 75km away so i wanna hear what people think about this car before i drive up all the way.

I will obviously get it checked with carproof and a mechanic.

    What do you think guys.

PS: First post on the forum.

I've got 96K on my '08, mostly from driving to and from work, about 40 min each way. So 150K wouldn't be outrageous if he drives an hour to work.
Depending on the condition of the car seven grand sounds about right if it is clean, rust-free and well maintained.

I would want to see the maintenance records for the car. In particular, were the brakes serviced on schedule by a mechanic... if he is hard on the car you would see the pads replaced earlier than would be expected from highway driving. Also, at 150K it could be due for a clutch if it has a manual tranny.... if the brakes have had to be replace a couple of times I would figure on the clutch being worn as well.

What's your budget for buying a car? In my honest opinion, you could prob find a better deal, but if your cool with 150k, then Id go for it, check for wheel well rust

My 05 GT has 160k and I bought it with 150k... absolutely no major issues and it was well taken care of by the last owner. Just look for rust, get a mechanic to check it out, and make sure everything feels right with a test drive. The price does seem reasonable though, considering I paid $7000 for my 05. (Mind you, I have a 2 year powertrain warranty that doubles to 4 years if I don't use it in the first 2 years)

thanks Guys. I was just a bit worried about 150Ks. I will go and have a look at get a mechanic to check for rust. i am still not too sure if i wanna buy brand new or a good used model. My budget is around 7 so this car with all GT equipment and upgrades looks like a good bargain.

That was my budget too, and I went for the GT for the same reason. I paid in cash, so having no car payments was a factor in my decision. I figured if I enjoy it enough, I could buy a brand new Mazda 3 in the near future.

Being a 2008, this makes the car about 5 years old... depending in what month it was purchased.
The average person in the GTA drives about 20,000-23,000kms per year (again, this is an average.... obviously some drive more or less).
So the car of that age on average should have somewhere between 100,000-115,000kms. With the car having 150,000kms.... you have nothing else to go on except his "word" that the extra 35,000kms+ is highway driving. I'm not saying he's lieing or telling the truth.... just saying that you have nothing to go on but his word.

To some people this is not a big deal. For myself, I'm not willing to take that risk. You should be able to find a better deal for $7000.

    Again, just my
resident "Bouncer"; all-around nice guy ...

+1... this is the reason that I suggested looking at the maintenance records for brake replacement. If he has lousy maintenance records... move on. If the brakes have been changed more than once.. move on.

I asked for maintenance and service from the guy and he said he never did any major thing done to the car. Car has been getting regular serviced. I am gonna go and have a look at the car next week. It's 70km one way trip so need to take some time out.

Some guys advised that I can find similar cars in this range but I couldn't find any 2008 GT car for the same price. I have been checking in kijiji and auto trader.ca

Getting a deal takes time. It took me awhile to find mine. FWIW I got my 2008.5 GT w/58000km for $8000 certified and e-tested private sale.

$7,000 is a nice chunk of money. Why not put that down on a new car, pay a couple hundred a month and have something guaranteed not to give you problems for a couple years. It shouldn't be difficult to get accepted for financing with $7,000.

Other than that, I agree with P-O-G-I

Thats an awesome find i think. I have decided to not go after 150K car after advice from this forum. I have upped my budget to 10 grand and now looking for 2010 Mazda 3 GS with reasonable mileage. Hope i find a nice car and be a regular of this forum.

I was thinking of putting 7k down and going for a new car specially with the deals given by Jeff but in the end i have decided to get used now and see the 2014 mazda 3 reshape first and then decide.
